Wait or get a short term lease. Market forces will drive prices down. Fight for a lower price.

I'm sure the prices will go down, and soon. I'm not sure when they will go back up again. As long as corrupt officials and crime makes NYC their home, its hard to imagine things will get better anytime soon. DeBlasio seems to be keen on doing stuff like in that episode of The Sopranos. Where they get cheap prices on the houses by getting crackheads in and later buy them cheaply. Kind of like DeBlasio thing, with bringing junkies into hotels in NYC.

"Tony, Ralphie and Assemblyman Zellman team up with a corrupt black community leader to defraud HUD. The stooge buys a couple of rundown crack houses at market value of of about $100K. A corrupt appraiser reappraised the houses at $300K each, and the community leader applies for HUD support to convert the houses to low-cost worker's housing, with the strong support of the Assemblyman. The banks are happy to make the loans, which are insured by HUD, and they walk away with $1.2 million from the loan. Then the community leader is supposed to say that they had unforseen difficulties, they can't make the loan terms, and everyone walks away from the houses."
Some flavor of that is probably common now in DeBlasio's NYC.
it is called greed and the artificial inflation of property prices for the benefit of banks and the greedy.

Maybe so, but this is not relative, its very contextual. Current day NYC is not Sydney and speaking of Australian real estate, its outrageously high for a long time.
@Lightman I have relatives in Australia, (Melborne and Wodonga). They always tell me horror stories of prices in Australia. When they come to Croatia they feel they are billionaires. lol But they don't have a standard of living much better than here. So its crazy. Australians should just make some money Down Under and move to some country where they can take advantage of the money they made.
@Krunoslav If the rich of China no longer hid their wealth in Sydney, Prices would fall. That would not help Sydney, as a whole lot of businesses would go bankrupt. But, rents and house prices would go down.
