@Krunoslav I would almost believe your story, (orig. published 1510) came from one of the two BLM Communist trained girls. Sounds very like some of their myths. Do not think we in Ca. invented all of the present theories used by the Left to reorganize the world. But certain University of Ca. would accept giving birth to the whole mess. Since I saw almost none of the movies made in Ca. From the Silents, then talkies, to swinging sixties, I probably saw 3 or 4 movies by the time I was 22. When I got here, I only gradually realized I lived right on the edge of all that became the California dream. Binged watched movies from all of these eras in 2006 with a BlockBuster on my corner. Funny that.

Maybe the single best real-time indicator of relative residential attractiveness is the cost of a U-Haul one-way truck rental. I live in Arizona. We have just gone through a massive spike in coronavirus cases and deaths, are approaching the tail-end of our hottest summer in history, and had big wildfires from June to August. When I checked two weeks ago, rental for a 26-foot truck was about $1600 from LA to Phoenix. From Phoenix to LA? Less than $200. Similar differential, though higher rates, from and to the Bay Area.
