I don't think you can reduce it to a simple formula. I would describe it as the Democratic Party having become the party of the Yin opposing the Yang or patriarchy. In evolutionary terms it's those that would prefer a easy but unstable environment vs those that prefer a harsh but stable environment. Don't be confused by the Yin being associated with the feminine and a K strategy. A K strategy is baked into the species. Those most attracted to the Democratic Party are artists, females, the effeminate, those with a preference for security over freedom, naturalists, those in prestige cultures, extroverts, those with a preference for fiction over historical works, the empathetic, those that prefer manipulation over production. Of course not everyone of these characteristics will be found in every Democrat nor are they characteristics that are absent from those in other parties but small differences in preferences have dramatic effect at population levels.

When we try to frame the question in terms of good vs evil it lacks the kind of nuance that makes it interesting. Since personality is primarily biological in origin it also leads to unavoidable conflict. There are no good or bad instincts there are just what has evolved. Some of the conflict can be resolved by simply accepting that there are immutable characteristics. The part of the conflict that can't be resolved is the rejection of freewill by the left's intellectual class. It in this regard that the religious hold the moral high ground. Almost every social experiment the left has tried was doomed by the rejection of freewill. Without freewill you cannot have responsibility, punishment and order. Every problem reduces to making adults infants. This destruction of agency is the left's mortal sin.

I know some will argue that it's the right that rejects responsibility. That they do not feel responsible for their fellow man, mother earth, or the emotional well-being of society. The problem with that argument is that the dominant characteristics of those that reject the Democratic Party is conscientiousness. Closely followed by orderliness and disgust sensitivity. While openness is modestly associated with intelligence intelligence is not associated with conscientiousness. I would go further and say empathy is not associated with positive outcome. The smothering mother can be an extremely destructive force. It isn't so much the primitive instinct of empathy we want but the virtue of charity. Charity is the unnatural culturally evolved extension of the prosocial instinct.

The US is not a Christian nation, and the Constitution is not based on Christian principles. In fact, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are definitely not Christian principles.

To directly tie "Americanism" with Christianity is alienating to close to 40% of the country who do not identify as Christian.
