Is there a correlation between those who support/condemn the lockdowns and their type of jobs?

It would be interesting if someone did this study. There are a handful of groups of people that really support the lockdown from my anecdotal observations: retirees, teachers, nurses, government workers, and maybe a few others. Most of these positions are fairly resistant to any economic downturn with lower chances of being laid off. Everyone else seems petrified of losing their job because they think it will be that much harder to find something else. I am sure there are a few people who don’t act that way on both sides, but I want to guess it’s very rare .

I guess this is just another example of it being easier to “go with the flow” when you’re very safe from the flow.

It reminds me when I was 16 and I was okay with illegals being in the US because it’s the “nice thing to do”, not realizing all the baggage they bring. But any adult who supports illegals coming here is probably fortunate to not have to live near them at all. It’s a very similar situation.

I think, to a certain extent, that you're right when you say that it's easier to go with the flow when you're safe from it; however, when you think about it, a lot of these jobs are gov't jobs (in Canada). I could be wrong but it seems like a lot of the people with these kinds of jobs seem to have way more faith in the system. I'm sure that there's quite a few people in that category that don't feel that way but so far in my circle, I haven't met any. These are the people that don't want to ask too many questions and don't seem to look farther ahead than supper time. They can't stand the thought of 'thinking outside the box' and truly believe that this is done for our own good. I guess it's easier to stick your head in the sand than it is to face reality. That being said, I also know that there are people who are self employed and aren't nearly as affected (not yet anyhow) by the lockdowns and restrictions as other people are but yet they are the ones who do not support it. They're saying "wait a sec. Something is wrong here. Not only is this going to destroy people, its flat out going to kill our country".

Just my observations and opinions tho.

I would be curious to see what the breakdown is based on primary news source. Did the CNN over-hype death toll factor into a lockdown preference? Does consuming multiple non-leftist news sources create different results?

Generalizations are just that, generalizations. In my area of Florida we have a large number of retirees, many of whom have to work to supplement their meager social security benefits. And as it's Florida, we have many 'service workers' like waitresses and such. It is these people who would worry the most about lockdowns. Our governor, DeSantis, has opened Florida so we are not impacted to severely. Since this pandemic began I have only known of a handful of people who contracted COVID, none of whom were hospitalized and only one death and that was in Indiana. My primary physician told me she had not had one case of COVID infection and my pulmonologist has had no cases either. My experience with COVID does not jibe with what I see on the nightly news.
