News? We don't have actual news stories anymore. We have drama, sitcoms, and opinions. News based on facts, that are researched, vetted, and then put out in an unbiased manner is non-existant in the USA. We essentially have Yellow Journalism. Which use to be a horrible thing, that no respectable journalist wanted to be associated with. Now, it is the status quo.

Because we had a brief period in which everyone agreed that the propaganda of the mainstream was "righteous" we forget that the news industry historically was very partisan and corrupt. Propaganda during WWII was racist, misleading and heavily censored but for the most part people didn't care. During the early part of the cold war people were still ok with propaganda if it served national interests. That all changed with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Instead of the left looking at the dystopia and thinking twice about socialism they had an opportunity to mainstream it. No Soviet Union no glaring example of why socialism doesn't work and less opposition. The opposite happened with conservatives. No Soviet Union meant they needed a new enemy to rally the troops. For conservatives that enemy became the mainstream culture that had slowly moved towards a kind of Corporatist socialism and away from traditional values. Hollywood had always been a hotbed of radical progressive ideology, something that Reagan recognized in the thirties. But the new progressive dogma was no longer influenced by Soviet style communism but an amorphous version of Neo Marxism and post modernism with a bit of fascism thrown in. Popular culture had moved on leaving conservatives asking what happened. The answer came first from talk radio and then outlets like Fox news.

A free press has never meant an unbiased press and WWII shows that a government controlled press will never be unbiased either. What is particularly disheartening is that we no longer even get biased facts. The news has always been biased but increasingly has moved away from the facts and nothing but the facts. It's now a form of entertainment. Even when it was the facts it lied by omission but at least you got a lot of facts.

Luxus destroys civilizations. Money corrupts and that is no where more evident than in the educational system and the media. The student debt crisis and fake news being examples. If people have the luxury to get useless degrees then someone will exploit it. If they have the luxury to indulge in fake entertainment news someone will exploit it. Most people don't really need accurate news because they are immune from the consequences of their own actions. Their is no enemy at the door at worst every problem can can be kicked down the road and they like their government can just borrow more money and time.

It's all about intent. Like many terms these days, "fake news" means different things to different people.

I see MANY people accusing others of lying when all they're doing is spreading false information. Not the smartest thing to do, but that's not lying unless the intent is to deliberately mislead others. It's all about intent.

I would caution others to not label something as fake news unless the story is being intentionally fabricated for a prescribed purpose. It's all about intent.

All news outlets are biased in some way. Ben Shapiro made a great point of that on one of his shows. If a news source spins a story a certain way or leaves out information, that's bias. In some instances bias is simply used to bolster a particular pov. What bothers me deeply about the MSM is their use of bias to distort the truth. Again, it's all about intent.

It is entirely the responsibility of News organizations to be diligent in protecting their reputation to be honest brokers in the truth. When they fail that mission they must redeem themselves by correcting the record and apologizing for their mistake. If they do not do that, they should be abandoned as a valid source of News. People who knowingly source information from suspect "News" agencies are encouraging more lies.

In my own world I use Daily Wire, the Blaze and Breitbart as valid News sources. I also peruse The Populist Press and the Gateway Pundit for rumors but they have lied to me and I am on guard for more deception from them. I imagine Fox does a good job. I find it hard to believe that there are any News agencies on the left that maintain honesty. The lies peddled on the left are mainstreamed and ubiquitous that not supporting them would jeopardize the agency's existence (Imagine a leftist News agency that didn't agree that this past election was "the most secure" election ever).
