LINK 15 Absurd and Unforgivable Things the Catholic Church Has Done
It's hard out here for a pope. See, when it comes to religious history, the list of Catholic Church transgressions makes for pretty uncomfortable reading. Despite exalting virtue and kindness in its teaching, church leadership has spearheaded a long history of outright unforgivable Catholic actions.
You might remember some of these improprieties from school - the Inquisition, Joan of Arc, and the trial of Galileo should all ring a bell. But not everything here is medieval. Though Vatican violence goes way back, a number of disturbing episodes are from recent history. Some of this repugnant behavior comes from popes, some was church-endorsed, and some, most unsettlingly, was just straight-up regular church practice.
Dark church history contains scandal after scandal rife with every vice and taboo you can imagine. When the church was at the height of its power (at which point it was the most powerful organization in the Western world), it's safe to say everything went to its head. Combine that with church leaders seeming to stubbornly resist adapting to changing morality and you've got a whole lot of unforgivable moments on your hands.

Bad people do bad things. Bad people in positions of power do powerfully bad things.
But condemning an entire community for the actions of individuals is not logical, irrespective of whether that community is religion-based, skin-color based, biologically based, sexual-orientation based, wealth-based, or any other label you'd like to categorize people by.
And if you respond to that by stating that the community tolerated it or enabled it by refusing to stop it, ergo they are guilty by association - which, BTW, is the gist of the entire argument against "whiteness" in critical race theory - then I'd have to ask how many groups you'd apply that argument to? Are women responsible by association because some women murder or steal? No? But yet Catholics are? Now you're just being a bigot. Congratulations.
We, each of us, is a demographic of one. Unique and complex. And we'd do well to start remembering that instead of trying to cancel and outwoke each other predicated on our group memberships.
As an aside, I don't pretend to understand why there is a need for people to attack Catholics, Christians, Jews, Muslims, et al. as the most horrible sorts of people, because I have seen people just as horrible proclaim themselves as proud atheists. Does that mean I should remind atheists that they belong to the same group that murdered millions under Communism? Of course not; because I take great comfort in the fact that anyone is capable of being a ripe turd, regardless of their spiritual disposition.

This isn't about Catholics. It is about the Catholic Church - a specific organization. It would be like criticizing the Westboro Baptist Church, and not all Christians or Baptists.
Except you're still vilifying anyone who is a member of the Catholic Church.
How does that make it better?
@Alysandir there is a difference between a member as in a follower, or even a priest at a local church, and someone in a position of leadership at the Vatican.
This is also just a list of facts. You can draw your own conclusions.
I grew up in a catholic family and i remember how everything was shame. We grew up so guilty. Like the old saying the priest says do as I say, not as I do. They even wanted to know what we were thinking. It was all to do with sex and sex is what makes the world revolve. The belief was you could do all the bad things you wanted during the week but as long as you went to confession all was forgiven . How stupid we were to believe all that.
