Vows of poverty within communal religious orders are a long standing form of communism. I would argue that Orthodox Christianity itself primed some Western populations, France, Russia and Greece, to accept communism. Protestant populations not so much. The New Testament itself however contains numerous passages that clearly imply material wealth is a moral hazard. Beyond that you don't have to be religious to appreciate that money is power and "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". The rejection of material wealth and visit poverty are a common theme in other religions that have communal orders such as Buddhism.

It gets worse, I have argued that because we evolved for an environment without productivity where fairness means somewhat equal distribution that as a species we are primed for communism. If you look at Marx he acted out in his private life "jungle" morality. He was basically a useless parasite, racist and misogynist.

Civilization is always a thin veneer. The problem is that people assume that socialism is unnatural and therefore civilized. Nothing could be further from the truth. Celebrate or non breeding male groups are perfectly natural especially in stressful environments such as the harsh and stable environment civilization requires. It doesn't take much imagination to see some religious orders in light of those instincts. Religion bridges the narrative world and the physical world and communism attempts to serve the same purpose. It's how it picks up it's cult like persona.

Civilization evolved out of individual productivity as a moral imperative. Once you have agricultural you have to have a moral code with stringent property rights, the productive have to be defended against the less productive. Agriculture has to be relentless defended in a way migratory lifestyles do not have to defend territory, natural resources are hard for enemies to destroy. Once you need organized and relentless defense you need a hierarchy as part of a moral code. You need a organized religion to keep track of time and make agricultural decisions. There is a reason communist always come into conflict with agriculture and why Marx ignored it in his idiotic theories.

The pope in many ways is the same sort of parasite as Marx, as are large segments of the intellectual community. They live the easy life we are evolved for where networking is key and productivity is irrelevant. As it relates to the topic at hand the eschatological nature of Christianity makes productivity almost as irrelevant even for individuals that highly K selected and primed for a slow lifestyle. Sure monks are supposed to be self supporting but since there is no real competency hierarchy other than that based on networking productivity is an after thought. This phenomenon dooms most religious orders and communism.

It the case of communism party officials often are selected based on networking skills which dooms productivity. The same thing happens in capitalism when you have crony capitalists working with the silly apes we call politicians.

This is a "populist" Pope. Siding with everyone and no one. The tenets of the Bible are of no concern to him.

Exactly. But as WorldSigh said, this is a Jesuit Pope. Jesuits are the intellectual order that, from what I have seen over the years, is actually in most respects not believers in the Gospel of Jesus.

@toronto_Georgia so they're like the political class of the church, cynically using the gospel to coerce and rule over everyone below? I don't know much about the hierarchical structure of the church and have always been suspicious and sceptical of it as an institution.
