Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Star Trek built up 32 seasons of canon and they they threw it away, with the reboot in Star Trek 11, and with a timeline reboot in Star Trek Discovery. Senseless to throw away all that canon.
Star Trek Discovery is cringingly woke.
Wondering if Millennials are aware that the new Star Wars is not just woke, it sucks.
Why does woke always suck? Ghostbusters 2 sucked. It seems to be intrinsically impossible to make something that is woke and entertaining.

I look at Star Trek in much the same way I view Star Wars: both franchises view the existing fanbases as something the don't much care about because they figure they are old and less-inclined to buy merchandise. Instead, they are creating new franchises, built on the foundations of the old ones, in order to cultivate new generations of fans.
And from a business perspective, I cannot really argue this strategy. Should Star Trek continue to treat as its core audience people who were watching it in the 60s? Or even the 80s? Probably not a viable long term strategy.
But where they royally screwed up is creating new material that completely pushes away those old reliable fans who were inclined to tune in out of nostalgia. I mean, when you have Star Trek fans saying that "The Orville" is more of a spiritual successor to Star Trek than the latest two Star Trek serials, that's indicative of a pretty big problem.

You are giving them way way too much credit. This like everything in western culture is used as vehicle for new religion and its propaganda. It has nothing to do with storytelling, since it sucks at it, and everything to do with propaganda. There is no universes in which that can be justified in my book.
Your statement and mine are not incompatible. I fully agree with you that everything has become about the cult of wokeness.
And that's the point: the Star Trek (& Star Wars) that exists TODAY is predicated on cultivating new fans that have been indoctrinated to wokeness and believe that it's the most important aspect to judge anything on. That is, you may or may not be entertaining, but you sure as HELL better be woke, otherwise we will not consume your product. It's this very dedication to wokeness that has driven away long-time fans of the series.
But the jokes on them, because while old fans would - and still do - happily buy merch from IP they enjoy, these new woke fans they are attempting to cultivate want nothing to do with capitalism and will not buy your merch. In fact, it's fair to say that a lot of the people complaining about whether projects meet the "woke quota" or not, have zero interest in even seeing your show or movie; they are there simply to police you and complain if you haven't made your project intersectional or inclusive enough.
