Nobody loves your kids and wants and knows what’s best for them like you.
When I entered the 7th grade (1st year of Jr High), I was approached by some 8th graders (oldest in the Jr high). They had a can of chewing tobacco and offered me a pinch. I said, “mmm.... no thanks”. They followed up with, “why, are you chicken? Bock, bock, bock”. I answered, “ Uh... I wasn’t, but maybe I should be. Yeah, I definitely don’t want any”.
I have always had an aversion to peer pressure and have rebelled against it and any form of coercion. I naturally tend to obey authority, but question what seems illogical. If that questioning causes them to react with anger and irrationality, it makes me more resistant. If that is followed up with force, that makes me want to dig my heals in. I think this is common among most thinkers (as opposed to other personality types).
In my leadership and management training experience, I have learned that all personality types are important and have their specific value.

I think you're right when you say that "thinkers" tend to resist pressure - coercion. I had similar experiences to your story about declining the tobacco. In my case it was beer and pot. No thanks! I think I'm the only person of the 60s who has never tried pot.

Pot and alcohol weren’t an issue until high school. My brother and I refused those also, but as Christian kids that truly had a relationship with Christ, it was a natural decision.
My brother an I were also likely the only kids in our high school that were openly virgins. We liked girls, but sex was supposed to be only between one man and one woman after marriage and for the rest of their lives. We didn’t know who we were, much less who we wanted to spend the rest of our.lives with. (My younger brother met his wife in college and has been married to the same woman for 38 years. My wife and I met after college while I was in the Army and assigned over seas. We have been together for 34 years).
