Russia may feel it made a fatal mistake waiting so long on that negotiations of diplomacy. NATO broke its own words on assimilation of previous Iron Curtain countries. There are selective targeted eugenics labs & bio research some of which are known and others classified & unknown. So much for transparency. All based on the trust of the words of known hypocrites, liars, and word salad espewing narcissists. Just look at the track record, the modus operandi, the history of the behaviours.....fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

The base that is near the Polish border that got attacked is a prime example of leftist socialist democratic manipulative demagoguery. If you don't want something attacked near that border then why did it get built there.

@Weltansicht Russia is engaging in a lot of diplomatic overtures but they don't get much airplay here. We just hear about the military not the diplomacy. The propaganda lies from Ukraine and media are off putting.

"NATO broke its own words on assimilation" 1-2 years ago (ahem) we had a stable diplomatic/military agreement with Ukraine that kept Russia out. Our incredibly slow response makes this look like a manufactured war.

The reason for such rash temerity is incomprehensible, unless there is an intentional desire to trigger reactions from the opposing party.

Unless you tightly define "core" I think you are incorrect in the two countries. The CCP is actively and fatally hostile to any internal group that either threatens their totalitarian control or runs afoul of some stupid fad they created -- a characteristic of every instance in which any flavor of communism was implemented. The oppressed (disappeared) members of the FalonGong (sp?) group. Almost destroyed their agrarian class with the single child rule. Are murdering the Uighers (again, sp?). I'm sure there are others, like anyone who tries to access the WWW outside their tool, Google.
As to Russia, not so sure. My suspicion is also that they, not just Putin, act against any who oppose. Which sorta puts them in the same class as present US Admin -- see Jan6 "trial". Corps are just led by weak-kneed TWOTs who are told by Legal dept to not say anything that might risk a trial (heaven forbid a lawyer get off their arse and actually fight) or getting an invitation to a celebrity party.
