The thing about Hedonism (pleasure seeking) is that it radically narrows a persons and a populations universe down to the smallest common denominator. If a person doesn't know who started for the Cowboys or who got slapped at the Oscars - well then, they have nothing to contribute to their peers in conversation - right?
The fun, the physical and visual and auditory pleasures - the trendy, the having of all things that show higher status than the next guy...leaves no room in the heads nor the hearts of the pleasure seekers for things like a seriously cognitively compromised puppet of the American Communist Party standing before the White House Press corp and quite literally babbling about things so stupid and destructive that "the people" ought to have been literally up in arms about one year ago!
"Say, John and Sally, what did you think about Bidens comments on transgendering children"
"Oh we didn't have time to watch that - BTW what do you think about the outcome of the Super Bowl this year" - and what about that Tom Brady coming out of almost retirement for what - 2 mil per year? Crazy - right?
"Hey guys did you hear about a massacre in Ukraine or some place like that"
"No - where? no idea; but hey did you see Will Smith slap the shit out of Chris Rock live, on stage at the Oscars?! " That was some crazy stuff right there man! "

This is Not Good - Feb 28, 2022
I've noticed this phenomenon from the inside. It is a product of American urbanization. More people live in isolation within a huge building that holds hundreds of families and have never spoken to their neighbors. If the only way to learn about the family next door is the media no one will really understand any other.

Yes. Even worse these mobile devices and "news" being fed to people, means that people can be of the same family and in the same living room and have completely different worldview.
well, that problem is alive and well in the suburbs too - my house is in a cul-de-sac.. been here for going on 10 years. Don't know any names...once in a while I get what appears to be a hesitant, if not reluctant wave. This is not a development caused by covid isolating.
In my subdivision I know of only one street where the neighbors seem to get together - get involved with each other. They all have school age children. The kids run about and play out in front and up and down the street - in each others front yards and driveways I see kids learning to ride bikes, skate boarding, kicking a ball...love seeing that - reminds me of my own young experiences.
When I drive on that street I can't help thinking how it ought to be that way on every street in my subdivision including my cul-de-sac.
