I wrote this back in 2020.

Another installment of me "Thinking out Loud"

When we see the word "addiction" images of pitiable users of heroin and used syringes scattered and lying about in the gutter come to mind.
There is another kind of addiction. Addiction not to any drug but addiction to profound dependency. My assertion is that we the people abdicated our own authority and that we are now accustomed to and expect Government to "keep Americans safe" We are addicted to a false sense of safety and comfort perceived to come with no personal investment of time and labor. All that is required is that we remain compliant with Government rule.

Safe from what - Everything. Safe from disease and death - destitution and profound privation; but mostly safe from our own poor judgment. Safe from ever again thinking or believing in personal responsibility and god forbid - rugged individualism. Insulated from dangerous thinking. Ideation of "The Free Man!" The rugged individual" is a threat to the safety and security - the comfort blanket handed to us - gifted to us from Government.

We are now completely dependent upon Gov't for sustenance. The money is worthless - or very nearly so. Government and bureaucratic power are the only remaining currency that hold real value and those things are not attainable for you and me. Money is for chumps - addicts - us.

A bit harsh from Voltaire but in some cases.....
Suffice it to say I'm not familiar with the song.

I agree with the thoughts. Boiling it down...help is gold and if we cannot help we are worthless. The government will tell us they will help us all. We, as a society help each other less and less and the government promises to help more and more. Soon we cannot live without government and are its serfs, subject to its every bidding. A government career is the best. The only place you can feel like you are helping is as a politician or bureaucrat, even though you feel it is hardly worth doing for all the deplorables just looking for handouts.

By the way, you there! Are you trying to help? I'm sorry you'll have to get a license for that and there is extensive training necessary before you can even receive accreditation to try and help. Once you are trained we will fund you as long as you help making people more dependent and not more independent. Because an independent person is very dangerous to our monopoly on help. You just can't tell what they are going to do. And if they truly do help others become more independent our monopoly is threatened.
