Really enjoy seeing a progressive pastor talking politics and endorsing a specific candidate after all the talk of how churches should stay out of politics and should lose tax exempt status for getting involved in politics. but that’s right, if you endorse the “right” candidate you can do whatever you want

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I remember a incident where a church took out a full page ad against Bill Clinton 1992 and after he got in power, sent the IRS after them to remove their tax exempt status. I found it unusual to censor free speech when the advertisement was all factual re-copying of the Arkansas Governor's political platform and performances. Basically in a nutshell, it came down to warning Christians about the subversive nature of a potential ruler over you. You can say it from the pulpit but you can not publish it? and obviously the newspaper had no problems publishing it as questionable or problematic. Free press, no?
The last I knew 1997, the government had lost its case, but then appealed to different judge and got everything reinstated 2000.
Yet in another one in the middle of that same time period, a church lost its status AFTER Clinton & Gore made a speech there in 1995.

When politicians commit crimes, they need to be called out. We can take an example from John the Baptist. But when the man behind the pulpit covers up for these crimes, that's another story.
Caesar and God are separate loyalties. Pastors preach politics at the expense of Scripture. That may be what their congregation wants.
