Ivy Leagues lower admissions standards in anticipation of Supreme Court eliminating affirmative action

"Yale and Harvard are actively preparing for the Supreme Court to strike down affirmative action: they are de-emphasizing test scores and GPAs, likely as a backdoor mechanism that gives them more wiggle room to achieve 'diversity' at the expense of merit."

I have been of the belief that the entire system of education (public and private) had comprehensively lowered academic standards of achievement many years ago. Many a Black person shows up with intent to get a job or to gain entry into college who can barely read above the "traditional" 6th Grade level.
By "lowering the standard" for college acceptance qualification they would still have to explain how "Tyrone" gained acceptance while Tri, and Li, and Ko did not. Even though the Asian applicants scored extremely high and Tyrone did not.
How could Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Columbia... or even your State University explain that or rationalize that eventuality? They couldn't - right?
So I guess I just do not understand how "lowering the standards" can be a "work around" a merit based system. The bright kids are going to out perform the stupid kids by an even greater margin unless the scoring remains weighted according to skin color. - right?

Top heavy administration is a large part of the problem. The academics who once ran universities did not like administrative duties and were probably happy to off load them but I don't think most of them realized how stupid most administrators are. Are entire society to some extent has been taken over by mid wits smart enough to get degrees but not smart enough to deal with complexity.

At my job the engineers originally handled most of the administrative and personnel duties. It seemed logical to offload those duties to administrative professionals. It was a disaster because soon the administrative staff out numbered the engineering staff. That was followed by promotions being focused on "people skills" not engineering competence or interest. The entire work force soon became focused on "networking" instead of working. Then of course there was the new professional planning staff. Their obsession was things like bicycle lanes and handicap access or "environmental impacts" such as the effect on minority neighborhoods. For whatever reason the gregarious, open people drawn to those new fields were primarily people who favored form over function. My guess is because function requires actual work to achieve.

If you think dealing with personnel issues primarily requires empathy you are probably better suited for infant care than working with adults. The adult world is complicated and requires leadership gained through merit and hard work. Yes some level of social skills are required but mostly that means fair and honest with a bit of humane understanding.
