However it would take decades and cost billions and certainly wouldn't eliminate murder or even homicides committed by firearms. We simply don't know how many lives it would save but certainly not as many as the anti gun people think.
Of course it isn't really about saving lives. The anti gun people are just that anti gun. They are also anti clingers. They despise the people that cling to their "guns and bibles" as Obama described ordinary Americans. That is one of the reasons Obama was so popular, he shared a disdain for ordinary people that is characteristic of most liberals. When Orwell said the socialists don't love the poor they just hate the rich I don't think he could foresee the tremendous reduction in poverty in the working class that free enterprise would bring. Upwards mobility has transformed society and now he could say liberals don't love the disenfranchised they just hate the middle class and working poor. They are the rich from a historical perspective. In Orwell's day actors were for the most part not as fabulously wealthy as they are today. Nor were professional athletes or entertainers in general. Hollywood was once a hotbed of communism but today is a hotbed of what can only be described as fascism posing as moderate socialism. Very few liberals can grasp that they are the thing they pretend to hate.

I've had the dubious experience of working for many Hollywood types, and found very few willing to stop and ask themselves if they are impulsively spewing garbage, or if they are actually choosing to speak constructively.
