Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It is contradictory for people to on one hand claim that fine art, (film, poetry, writing in prose and poetry, sculpture, painting, architecture...) enrich our culture, cultivate our sensibilities, enhance the general peace and well being of society - While on the other hand make the claim that bloody violence (war, zombies, flying dragons, female and male avatars) have no negative impact on the psyches' of those who are truly addicted to that kind of entertainment.
I understand that the problems of violence and crime in our society (particularly among the younger generations) involve much more that violent video gaming. But it would be telling I think if someone to publish a study on the correlation between youthful violent offenders (mass shootings and stabbings and slashings) and the number of hours those people spent every day of their miserable cloistered existence playing out and entertaining their violent fantasies before they actually got their hands of guns, knives, swords...and picked a weak and vulnerable target (school campus, shopping mall, church...) and began attacking a "target rich" zone.
Personally I have never played video games of any kind - violent nor non-violent. I have never watched zombies on television or anywhere else. I don't watch MMA, Octagon, Boxing or any other striking "sports" entertainment. I personally believe those things are evil and that to patronize them with my time and money would be to at best desensitize me toward human violence and suffering and at worst to imbue myself with hostility, rage, and violent behaviors.
My position on this subject is not to be construed as myself being incapable of violent behavior. When it comes to self preservation, the lives and well being of my family members or other perceived innocent victims I am quite capable and willing to resort to deadly force in defense of those things.
I never look for an "excuse" to pull a firearm - much less to shoot anyone. Quite the opposite is true - I look to avoid and evade situations where violence might occur. These things are NOT equivalent to the negative, violent, hostile tendencies fomented by constant exposure to physical violence for purposes of entertainment.
