Kayfabe is a term used in professional wrestling to refer to the portrayal of events within the industry as "real" or "genuine", even though they may be scripted or staged. In other words, it is the practice of maintaining the illusion that professional wrestling is a legitimate sport rather than a form of entertainment. This includes keeping storylines and character alignments separate from real-life relationships and presenting matches as if they are unscripted and genuine competitions.
