I am not a medical professional but I venture to guess that there are probably such things as sterile masks, scrubs, hair bonnets, shoe covers and latex gloves made and sterilized and packaged in a sterile wrapper to be exclusively in the sterile environment of the OR or in sterile laboratory settings. Of course once the user straps the mask onto his face the mask is no longer sterile - the mouth and the breath is definitely NOT sterile.

the point is that the masks do NOT need to be sterile and if they were sterile it wouldn't be sterile the moment you took it out of the package and put it on your face
They have always been made this way. The difference is this pandemic has brought it out in the open. Our hospital supplies should never have been made in any other country and there should have always been stringent laws regarding materials used, facility inspections and proof of sterilization. The biggest problem is the money..in all things and we are all guilty of it.
