CHINATOWN AND THE LEFT
Marx thought Darwin was just sticking his Victorian dog-eat-dog economic system (what we now call "social Darwinism" ) onto nature, and explaining evolution that way.
No, it was Marx who was guilty of sticking his social ideas onto nature. By and large (although epigenetics is a bit shocking and heretical) you can't "educate" wheat to grow in snow (see Lysenko and Lysenkoism). "Marxist-Leninist biology", trying to re-educate plants, starved a lot of people.
"People hate people who aren't them." Yep. Of course, "hate" is too strong a word, usually. As I said in another message, we need a safe-space for "dislike speech." But genetic and family affinity is a real thing. It isn't taught. It can be UN-taught, to some degree, like teaching kittens to like and tolerate dogs when they grow up to be cats. But that's not the same thing.
Although they do it in Singapore, it's damned difficult in a FREE society to prevent immigrant people from going to live by people who share their own culture and language. Italians tend to go live next to Italians and soon you have a Little Italy. Chinese move in next to Chinese and soon you get Chinatown. We know what happens with emigrant Muslims very often.
But the Left sees this and will not admit any natural affinity. Rather, they dare not label African or Chinese emigrants "racist" because they have some affinities for each other. "White people" with such affinities ARE racist, as they can tell you. So we need an explanation for other groups. Well, we have it. They do this because of white people, you see. They are merely trying to empower themselves in the face of discrimination and hatred. Otherwise, they'd be fine with total cultural homogenization. Yes, they would. Really.
"Birds of feather flock together." And you know why? Because of structural oppression, that's why! If you look for it in nature, you'll see it. And if not, you need to be woke.

And I think the frameworks described here (https://niskanencenter.org/blog/tale-two-moralities-part-one-regional-inequality-moral-polarization/ ) add some nuance to the cultural and economic factors at play in the behavior you mentioned.

That's certainly a factor, but you see ethnic collection within countries where none of the people have moved for centuries. That's TRIBALISM. It's the major way humans live. There are bands of chimps, bands of Indians, and bands (and kith and kin, and clans, and so on) of everybody else. We are pack animals like monkeys and dogs. The Left has decided we are all as about as solitary as leopards, or orangutans at best, and anything else (all other collective behavior of humans beyond perhaps nuclear family) is oppression, or else reaction to oppression. I call bullshit.
See that ant-hill? Are those ants all banded together because of oppression from other ants? Which you can prove by wars between ant-hills? No. And it's not true of most non-human primates, either. It's not true of humans.
@Babou It's not the left that insists on primacy of the individual--that's capitalism. Leftists are all about collectivism. It's exploitative relationships that they take issue with. While humans may exist in all different types of collectives for all different sorts of reasons, I think we differentiate ourselves as a species when we use our brains to develop universal systems that maximize our freedom and our ability to coexist with others.
