The screener can't ask if the asylum seeker fears for their life, but if the seeker says they do then it can be considered. This is the whole basis of the lawsuit? This keeps the screener from doing his job?
Screener: "Why do you seek asylum?"
Seeker: "I fear for my life."
Seems pretty basic and straight forward to me. The job of the screener is to determine who legitimately needs asylum and who does not. Feeding the seeker answers in the form of a question is down right absurd.
Screener: "Do you fear for your life?"
Seeker: "Yeah!"
Screrner: "Are you a good and honest person?"
Seeker: "Yeah!"
Screener: "will you cause harm to anyone or break the law while you are here?"
Seeker: "No!"
Asking yes or no questions when trying to understand someone's intent and if they are lying is the stupidest way to go about it. Yes and no questions are the easiest questions to lie to.
Again, I call BS on the whole thing. PR stunt to make Trump look bad.
