Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.The media produce reports with the intention of creating insecurity and promoting fear and intolerance. That makes people watch and listen to the news and buy papers. Factual reports and good news doesn’t sell papers, polarisation creating conflict does.
That said, there is little doubt that left wing Liberalism has held sway in Europe, the USA and beyond but it is now being put on the back foot. Trump in the USA, the Labour and Liberal parties getting trounced in the UK election and the EU under threat with the UK leaving and the Eastern countries being in dispute with Brussels. The are also growing anti EU factions in Germany, France, Italy and others. Also the unlimited immigration of other cultures (mainly Muslim) into Europe is causing disquiet.
In all this there seems to be little room to take a middle line and people are effectively pushed into being for or against, creating polarisation. Both sides feel that if they give an inch this will not be reciprocated and I think there is some justification in this belief.
It might sound dramatic but I think there is a battle going on for the soul of Western society.

Open borders, unregulated abortions, gun control and outright Socialism being propagated by all the looney leftists? Yeah, I consider those existential threats to the Nation I want to live in. The Democrats are letting the lunatics run the asylum.
