Chicago, as far as the information I can find, has the strictest gun laws in the nation. Yet, they have the highest rate of shooting incidents. IMHO, you can't legislate public safety in this manner. Take for instance, the liquor laws in Alberta as an example. Almost 29 years ago the province opened lounges, bars, and sales on liquor and beer on Sundays. The people who opposed that ruling were convinced it was the end of our civilization. I tried to explain to them that it had always been my experience that too many laws, too many rules make for a bigger problem.
I'd grown up in Las Vegas where you could buy booze 24/7 year-round at pretty much anywhere you stopped. The alcoholics per capita was far lower there than in the little town I moved to in Alberta. Here, come Saturday evening just before the vendors closed, the store would be packed with people buying cases, not bottles, of alcohol and multiple flats of beer. All of this so they didn't run out of alcohol on Sunday. Not so now. It's more manageable.
The same with guns. If you take away the public's right to own firearms, you're violating their rights and allowing lawlessness to assume control. I know hunters, sportsmen and women, and others who just like to go out and target practice. When I lived out of town (30+ years) I always had a 22 rifle or a shotgun I kept handy. There were beings out there that had evil intent towards my stock and sometimes my children. I had no problem loading the shotgun shells with rock salt to convince the neighbor's dog to stay away either. Then the hunters who process what they kill to fit in the deep freezer.
This is just another way to control the general public. As the saying goes, "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns."

It doesn't work but the movement for gun control is progressive so it won't stop until they are taken away. That is the ultimate goal of the gun control movement, to take guns away completely. Make everyone accountable instead of taking away their choices.

...to take away guns from everyone EXCEPT from the same government they say is now ran by the next Hitler....

Interesting question.

  1. I doubt Law abiding gun owners will ever take up arms to defend their rights. Gun control is going to be on the agenda until the left wins.
  2. Illegal gun owners don’t give a damn about laws.
It’s not about illegal guns, they will never be controlled so it’s really about taking away legal guns to control the political agenda.

Gun facts
The ACTUAL facts about gun violence in America

There are about 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, this number is not disputed. (1)

U.S. population 328 million as of January 2018. (2)

Do the math: 0.00915% of the population dies from gun related actions each year.

Statistically speaking, this is insignificant. It's not even a rounding error.

What is not insignificant, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths:

• 22,938 (76%) are by suicide which can't be prevented by gun laws (3)

• 987 (3%) are by law enforcement, thus not relevant to Gun Control discussion. (4)

• 489 (2%) are accidental (5)

So no, "gun violence" isn't 30,000 annually, but rather 5,577... 0.0017% of the population.

Still too many? Let's look at location:

298 (5%) - St Louis, MO (6)

327 (6%) - Detroit, MI (6)

328 (6%) - Baltimore, MD (6)

764 (14%) - Chicago, IL (6)

That's over 30% of all gun crime. In just 4 cities.

This leaves 3,856 for for everywhere else in America... about 77 deaths per state. Obviously some States have higher rates than others

Yes, 5,577 is absolutely horrific, but let's think for a minute...

But what about other deaths each year?

70,000+ die from a drug overdose (7)

49,000 people die per year from the flu (8)

37,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities (9)

Now it gets interesting:

250,000+ people die each year from preventable medical errors. (10)

You are safer in Chicago than when you are in a hospital!

610,000 people die per year from heart disease (11)

Even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save about twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.).

A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides.

Simple, easily preventable, 10% reductions!

We don't have a gun problem... We have a political agenda and media sensationalism problem.

Here are some statistics about defensive gun use in the U.S. as well.

[nap.edu]

Page 15:

Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010).

That's a minimum 500,000 incidents/assaults deterred, if you were to play devil's advocate and say that only 10% of that low end number is accurate, then that is still more than the number of deaths, even including the suicides.

Older study, 1995:

[scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu]

Page 164

The most technically sound estimates presented in Table 2 are those based on the shorter one-year recall period that rely on Rs' first-hand accounts of their own experiences (person-based estimates). These estimates appear in the first two columns. They indicate that each year in the U.S. there are about 2.2 to 2.5 million DGUs of all types by civilians against humans, with about 1.5 to 1.9 million of the incidents involving use of handguns.

r/dgu is a great sub to pay attention to, when you want to know whether or not someone is defensively using a gun

If I may, I’d like to share that.

@AlbertaPatriot please do, far and wide
All the stats you see in lib media are total BS

Yes, most of those numbers are from people voluntarily choosing to end their own lives as is their right. Not only do the fascists posing as liberals today want to take away our right to defend our families, they also apparently want to take away the right of people to end their own lives.

Remember when liberals pushed for people to have the right to end their own life? Remember Dr. Kevorkian? I think assisted suicide is even legal in Oregon, but now all of a sudden suicide is something we need to keep people from being able to commit in the quest to disarm people in the face of a government we are told is run by the next Hitler.

Insanity.

@WingedRyno it’s not the guns, it’s a sick Godless society.
Criminals don’t buy guns silly. Even without guns there are knives and machetes and acid attacks, cars and trucks, bombs... this is politics. It’s about control

@David42 I think I agree to most of that. Definitely the part about control.
