I have no idea. The phrase is still good even if uttered by Satan Himself though. I like to judge thoughts on the content of their character, not the... you know... political affiliation of it's... utterer xD lol
were you promised or did you assume...I think people often think or believe they are or were "promised" certain things when in stark reality no such promises were made.
It seems to be a misunderstood aspect of human nature this thing about having been promised something.
The fact is there are no guarantees in life - none. For example getting married to your adorable sweetheart offers no guarantees or promises of perpetual joy and happiness.
Life after high school is a bit like life after marriage. Both are full of unforeseen pitfalls and blind corners.
It's how we cope with lifes sudden turns - the mental and emotional whiplash that you perceive happens literally to every man and woman.
We try to keep faith and hope alive and we trick ourselves into believing that promises have been made where in fact that is not true.
sounds trite to say but life after high school is what we make of it for ourselves by responding and interacting with the world that is present before us for better or for worse.

Dude, if I were basing this literally on a promise, I would be demanding compensation to whomever made me the promise. This is used in the metaphorical sense to convey the feeling you are referring to. Just like how the whole world is not REALLY a high school... I was both promised and also assumed. That doesn't really matter in the end, that's why I'm quoting Zapata, because I am willing to do something about it and not take it passively. Geez...
