Although I'm not convinced there's a sinister predetermined goal in MSM bias, they have had a polarizing real world affect on how many people view the world.
For decades I've watched journalists battle their way through political bs and dig at stories regardless of the elites related to said stories. Mental Instatutions inhumane functions, overseas wars, celebrities with ill connections, and even political figures themselves have been reported without bias. There was a trust I put in them to follow and report all news without loyalty to picking sides.
MSM has not only picked a side, they have made it their mission to demonize altering political views. The majority of this news is left sided, but I have seen right leaning bias as well. This has been compounded by the rise of social media over the years.
Social media likes to push headlines and quick opinionated summaries rather than publish an entire story. In addition, social media platforms are run by increasingly rigid community standards that will censor, ban, and fact check all political views that they disagree with. This doubles down on the already bias news, as well as furthers the divide between political parties.
MSM should be the ones most against cancel culture. Freedom of the press, speech, and controversial subject manner is at the very heart of journalism. It's not hard to recognize the stark difference in the way they report on one story vs another. Regardless if they are aware of it or not, they've become a full blown propaganda machine for extreme left ideologies.

The ongoing trend of media consolidation into fewer and fewer hands has a lot to do with the bias. The vast majority of MSM is controlled by five companies. At least that is the last figure I heard.
@dd54 It's a fair statement that MSM has gone full left. I just think they come off as more disingenuous to the BLM movement, rather than firmly standing by all their actions.
Over the last several years they've cherry picked stories to support BLM. The information of a socialist/ mix Marxist ideology has been down played. I haven't seen them directly say they support extreme leftist ideals, more of an attempt to pander to extreme leftist audience to garner ratings.
Of course, this is just as I percieve it. It's disturbing non the less. Especially considering this is a gateway to slowly make their audience ok with extreme leftist ideologies. There's a lot of faith people put into the MSM. Which is why I said that regardless if the MSM is aware of it or not, they've become a full blown propaganda machine for extreme leftist ideologies.
I'm sure there is another topic on this I have already answered... but hey...
