so in this whole “defund the police” and police reform discussion I keep hearing how we need more social workers and they should be responding to some of these calls instead of officers. So...firstly, I’d love to hear how many social workers would actually want to be sent to these situations, and sure some don’t get violent and maybe they could solve the problem but you don’t know that when you get the call and secondly, i am confused, teachers shouldn’t be allowed to have guns because they shouldn’t have to police the school and put their lives on the line and aren't trained to handle an active shooter but social workers they can handle violent disputes and have to risk their lives despite jot being trained in police tactics

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.As an officer I would have had no issue having, and actually did have a couple of times, a social worker along on calls. While the additional insight would have been nice in some circumstances, the other calls where you have people on drugs or alcohol, people with mental health issues, or people that are just violent and are going to fight no matter. These are the cases that have to be dealt with on a daily bases, and its nice when you can resolve them without having to put hands on people. Thats the best outcome for everyone involved. This just is not the case all the time. The officers are no more excited about putting hands on someone than anyone else, every time a scuffle starts the officer risk injury, death, and or civil and or criminal charges depending on the outcome. The stats nobody wants to acknowledge show how well the officers are actually doing, but nobody cares about how often they get it right, they just want to focus on when they don't.

The SJW are the social workers. They are the bleeding hearts. They are the first to call the cops when things escalate. The lesson is a simple one, even if you don’t like cops, respect the cop in front of you or your going to get hurt. Your life could depend on a simple choice!
