Pretty much all consumer goods are made in 3rd world countries

iThink Level 9 Jan 1, 2021

But not in California. Even if at this point third world state. These big corporations are truly entities with no soul or remorse. If there was a human it would be a sociopath. This way it just a board of sociopaths.

@Krunoslav
In the US, 40% of CEO’s are sociopaths... surprisingly the exact same fraction you find in prisons.
It is similar in most other countries.

@Hanno please site your source for that statistic

@Hanno Published in the Social Science Research Network, a new paper ranked the 48 continental states and District of Columbia by the degree of psychopathic personality traits found in the residents of each state. Using data from personality surveys conducted nationally in 2013, researchers determined that Washington, D.C., has the most psychopaths, while West Virginia has the fewest.
According a study dating back to 2010, there were at least three times as many psychopaths in executive or CEO roles than in the overall population. But more recent data found it’s now a much higher figure: 20 percent.
When it comes to the corporate world, non-violent, corporate psychopaths are not running from the law, but instead, rushing to the executive suite. One route to grabbing power for the highly intelligent psychopath is to climb the corporate ladder. There is a real chance that at some point a chief financial officer will be confronted with a psychopathic boss. Roughly 4% to as high as 12% of CEOs exhibit psychopathic traits, according to some expert estimates, many times more than the 1% rate found in the general population and more in line with the 15% rate found in prisons.

@Lightman
good job with your citation.

I am inclined to believe that the study talks about psychopathic traits and characteristics and not about "psychopaths"
I believe it is true that many if not most people exhibit psychopathic behaviors from time to time. That does not make them into "Psychopaths". IMHO

Highly competitive, competent intelligent people have aggressive methodologies. They know what they want and they work hard to achieve it. They are definitely goal oriented.
This doesn't necessarily make them psychopaths.

Washington DC is exceptional because it is the seat of the Federal Gov't and Gov't officials tend to have those psychopathic characteristics accompanied with a seve lacking in competencies (IMHO)

Corporate America - the so called private sector - rewards highly competent people. It is less likely for a CEO to be less than competent in the business operations of his Company vis a vis his title.
On the other hand we can randomly throw darts at a giant poster filled with photos of political officials and hit an incompetent psychopath on every throw...I think you would agree with that assessment of our illustrious Political personalities.

@iThink
Hi Ithink, Jon Ronson wrote a very humorous book in the subject: The Psychopath test.
He goes from one end to the other however explains the tests they have done historically and today and that the cast majority of sociopaths cannot be treated and do not commit crimes.
They just ruin the world for us.
It has been some time since I read it, and the 40% was one of the many members that stuck with me.
Now the exact details I cannot remember but according to him (he is just a author not a shrink himself), you are either a sociopath or not... nothing in between. The book goes into the detail.

@Lightman, it may be that I got 40% wrong, and it is lower, I will when I am back home reference the book again and see what he said.
My memory not exact.
However I am sure the fraction in Boardrooms and prisons were almost the same.

@iThink
Ok, it troubled me a bit so searched online book.
The CEO ratio is 4 time public, however sociopaths concentrate in coastal and highly popular areas, so they the ratio is much higher and can be as high as 15-20%.
My original 40% was exaggerating and I must have confused it with another number.
Apologies for that.

@Hanno no apologies necessary my friend. Very reasonable responses to my request for citation. I believe Jordan Peterson talked about this in one of his lectures. It would be difficult for me to find it but If you know where to look please let us know what J P said about sociopathic personalities in Corporate boardrooms.

Mind you I am not defending the proverbial CEO - but I do object to the tendency toward casting dispersions such as psychopathy and larceny at the proverbial "Corporations and Corporate leaders". Generalizations like that serve only to reinforce unfounded myths in the minds of people who for whatever reasons feel resentment toward Corporate (private sector) America. I'll take a private sector CEO over a career politician every time.

Trumps election in 2016 would indicate that we the people have had all we can stand with the same ol same ol political schemers and we elected a private sector egoist/sociopath in the person of one Donald J Trump.
In short, we utterly rejected the professional politicians in favor of trying something new and different.

While I have never been a fan of Trump I think he has been good for USA and the could have been GREAT if not for the professional political and corrupt Washington DC crowd hamstringing Trump at every turn.

Yes, I believe Trump is a sociopath - certainly he is a narcissist; on a scale of criminality relative to sociopathic personalities I would put the vast majority of politicians all bunched up together at the top of that scale and Trump somewhere below mid-range.

He ain't perfect as POTUS - not by a long shot...but I still prefer Trump to anybody the Democrats OR the Republicans would have placed in the Oval Office.

BTW I did not want Trump back in 2016. I was hoping for Ted Cruz to win the nomination. But that's a topic for a different day.

@iThink
Pretty much my thoughts on this specific matter as well.
Happy New Year.

@Hanno That's ok... stats vary anyway.
