Question

The prescription given for how to fix it is I think, poor. We're past the point where individuals acting individually can resist the tide. We have systems in place that are sustaining and increasing the divisions among us.

What do you all think?

Well, I think you're right, but...
Groupthink bubbles become self-sustaining and self-preserving by establishing closed feedback loops that both build exponentially on conformity, and either drown-out or repel everything else.
One person deciding not to participate will hardly matter, but any significant trend in that direction will disrupt... and can ultimately break the loop(s).

At the very least we can stop contributing, and try to protect the good china while the bull is charging through the shop.
The wheels of self-serving recklessness turn much quicker (and with less immediate friction) than do the wheels of contemplation and measured compromise; compromise with regard to preserving existing, load-bearing, foundational ideals (the "china".)
So, even before the recent boom in communications, serious people were already failing to keep up with the foolish and misguided zealots running with their heads-down toward the cliff that they think is a new horizon.
Those existing ideals are (or... were) the institutions, cultural mores, and common principles that resulted in the most prosperous and most free society in the history of history, comprising the very framework upon which it was built. And now they are simply dismissed out-of-hand by "progressive" zealots on a Crusade to impose the "flatness" described by the author; zealots who neither respect, nor do they even understand, what they seek to destroy.
All they see is the prosperity that others before them created, with no regard nor understanding of where it came from... and seek only to pillage and consume it for their immediate gratification.
I guess they figure, all future generations can just go f(#& themselves...

When this country was first started the Idea of making something to last was was a fundamental ideal, then came the idea of planed obsolescence. At first this was only used for material goods things that were produced cheaply that were not meant to last to drive the need to buy from the consumer. Then this was carried into business as corporation were created to skim money into the pockets of corporate CEO's only to be bankrupted and abandoned. This type of thinking has permeated all forms of our existence to the point were the main thought in the minds of most people is how will this benefit me now without a thought to the long term effects their actions will have. We now live in a world that was created to be of temporary use to benefit those who created it to exploit those who have to live in it. The welfare of the peoples that the elite rulers subjugate through media programing is of no concern to them as they see them as an expendable commodity. Yes this world is broken and the country that has built it self on planed obsolescence will crumble around those who can on longer fix things faster than they break.
