Privacy is a delusion, anyone who grew up in a small town realizes this. The answer is to make the world safe for our individual flaws. The moral stigma against gossip isn't about ignorance it's about forgiveness. It's what makes the cancel culture evil. We are our own worse enemies.
The Chinese communist party is a criminal organization. It's that simple. The only way to deal with criminally is to punish it, fences, doors and locks as they say only keep the honest honest.
There will always be criminals and evil governments. Locking them up is an option but at some point it becomes crushingly expensive. The approach to China we took with the Nixon administration was to pay the protection money. Trump wanted to go another route. He didn't want to lock them up but he didn't want to pay them off either. He took the long term carrot and stick approach only locking them out of national security industries. All other approaches are simple minded.
