Focusing on work while at work? What a novel idea...
This came across my feed this morning and I thought it interesting enough to share.
The part I really liked was the following quote:
Tech journalist Casey Newton said about one-third of the company’s roughly 60 employees took buyouts shortly after, with one fuming: “Basically the company has said, ‘well, your opinions don’t really matter — unless it’s directly related to business…’ A lot of people are gonna have a tough time living with that.”
Yes...imagine that...your employer wanting you to focus on your job - while on the clock - instead of your activism. Particularly when that activism threatens to tear the company apart. You greybeards out there...can you even imagine hiring someone like this?

They make team productivity software, so I do not imagine that the "average" person would have need of their products.
Having said that, Coke makes products that average people use; does that mean we should support them after their stance on both critical race theory and the GA voter law?
In other words, I'm not sure I see the connection. Help me understand.
@Alysandir Coca Cola is not a principled company - they are trying to navigate the political minefield by figuring out which side they should be on for the sake of their bottom line. It wasn't so long ago that they earned the moniker "Woka Cola" for telling their employees to be less white! As it is, I try to remember to choose their competitors' products if I have a decent choice. That's about as far as I take things on that side.
In Basecamp's case, when a company takes this kind of stand, we need to try to neutralize the threat of the cancel culture that will inevitably come for them.
I'm not going to launch an all-out leftist-style cancel campaign on Coca Cola, but when a company displays values I share, I have a desire to support them.
