People were released from asylums because educated society keeps viewing the world as an ideal place, instead of how it is.

They ask, "why are there homeless when we can house them?" And they continue to ask that question, even after throwing billions at the problem with no resolution, because the homeless don't act the way they expect.

They're shocked that the Taliban have moved so quickly and brutally to retake Afghanistan before the engine fumes from the last U.S helicopter have even dissipated. "Doesn't the Taliban understand," they ask, "that they will get the wrath of our economic sanctions for behaving this way?" Yeah, because men living in caves since the Soviet invasion of the late 70s give a crap about your economic sanctions.

They openly ask, "why are parents so against us teaching critical race applied principles to their children, along with transgender acceptance as early as kindergarten? The only possible answer is that they must be Nazis and Trump supporters!" Never thinking, of course, that some parents might not want adult-level topics taught to their 5 and 6 year-olds.

Most of the problems we face today are because the educated elite have one vision for the world and anyone who doesn't subscribe to that vision is somehow flawed or simply wrong. The problem with this assumption is that the ideas they are promoting HAVE NOT UNDERGONE ACADEMIC RIGOR. You want to say that the very best minds in the world have come up with these theories and - as such - we should follow them? Fine. But TEST those theories, first. That's the way it used to be done, right? But now, if the theory is politically correct, it is above rigor, it is beyond contestation. It is the Emperor's New Clothes and you show your virtue by declaring how glorious the Emperor's robes are.

These are the same people - in spite of spending four years insisting that there was Russian interference in the 2016 election and that we just need ONE MORE investigation to prove it (after the previous two couldn't find anything of substance) - that now say there's literally no reason to question the 2020 election and that anyone who does so hates Democracy. Pot, meet kettle. Nowhere does anyone say, "Hey, I have so much confidence in the legitimacy of the election that I'm willing to accept any questions or challenges, because it's THAT important to me that the losers of this election know that they lost legitimately." Instead, it's "sit down, shut up, and if you keep asking questions, you'll get banned from social media."

This is the problem with the so-called Ivory Tower Elite.
