There has been a culture in Australia of trust in the USA when mutual defense is concerned. Afghanistan?????????????????
Australia is purchasing F35's. I have heard that the USA can prevent the use of these aircraft at will. This should now be seen as a deal breaker. Even if not true, care should be taken when dealing with the brain dead in the White House.

Australian engineers can check this out and remove the kill switch, if any. Or manufacture the Saab Gripen under license from the Swedes.

It's a software issue. The F35 is a platform that is designed to be constantly updated. The updates come from the maker. Any update can subvert the ability of the aircraft to fly or activate a kill order. You would need a system to test updates. Where do those systems come from? Ad infinitum.

@adriaan23 We have no defense industry except for small arms. We get our fighter aircraft and patrol boats from abroad. Do we have defense appropriate for our size?
@eschatologyguy Our equipment and personal are first rate. If attacked and isolated We might last weeks or months, but without the ability to resupply it would come down to guerrilla warfare with pots pans, and kitchen knives.
