Our current Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) was the Treasurer at the time, it was his budget. The Victorian Premier gave his politicians a pay rise when people were losing their jobs during the fake covid crisis created by the MSM and the government last year.

I do not know about there in BBC land, but in the State of illinois,USA, in the 1980s, the government voted on NOT to raise the minimum wage but gave themselves a cost of living increase THAT was more than most people made in a year. I will not even start on the perks & other benefits that are free to them at taxpayer expense, or the US Reps given themselves the same thing.
Put it this way, when Gov Thompson of illinois lied twice about the state of the economy(1980 & 1984) but then soon as back in office RAISED taxes, well that is where the term RINO comes from and also why he was not picked to be the vice-president candidate in 1988 and they picked Dan Qualye from Indiana instead
