It is not their job to teach critical thinking, politics, social justice, etc.!!!!!
It is their job to teach reading, writing and arithmetic!!!!!
Everything else is should be up to parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has not been the case since about 1960, I was a teen ager by then, so I know!!!!!!

If it had not been tried before maybe you could excuse the loosening of moral standards. Civilization requires a harsh stable environment. Now I have nothing against gay, trans, lesbian, etc. people but it's not a question of prejudice. It's a question of social organization. My experience has been that promiscuity is socially disruptive. That of course includes heterosexual people.
If parents are those who have extreme views, e.g., far-left, far-right, etc., and are trying to interfere with the curriculum, of course they are the problem. What is it the parents have exposed in their children's schools, anyway? What are those "materials" exactly that are so morally grotesque and sexually perverted?
So you support exposing school children to LGBT Ideology?

@govols So, I read the article. "Critical pedagogy" Lol Apart from the fancy term, most teachers have been exercising most parts of this approach for ages.
For example:
Establishing a trusting teacher-student relationship is essential;
Sitting in a circle, instead of sitting in rows is effective when encouraging students to develop debating skills through free discussions;
Making students aware of the other side of the coin (alternative views) is helpful in developing critical thinking/free thinking skills in students;
Students are encouraged to think freely and independently so that they can reach their own conclusions and act accordingly and responsibly; etc., etc.
However, like everything else, politics distorts the essence of education.
Also, I think "parents vs. schools" is too simplistic to further thoughts on. Not all parents are interested in their children's education; some parents support extreme views; not all schools support teaching CRT; some schools are so religious that they will not teach anything outside their beliefs; etc., etc.
If your comment was to me, I said nothing but"here's an article that's on topic." It was pointed toward @Naomi rather than you, but presented for any interested.

I picked the above article because it is from within the perspective of the "method's" own ideas and practices. Notice it's based in Critical Theories, and notice it's systemic in its implementation. It is, itself, a system of power designed to not to inculcate free and open critical thinking, but instead to indoctrinate children into thinking "critically;" it preaches a "gospel" of good news, that everything you know through tradition and the grand narratives of the histories of your peoples is probably a deception invented by those in power specifically and intentionally support the social structures that maintain those in power over those they oppress.
But you can be liberated from the deceptions by learning the techniques of Critical Theories. Not Reason, not Logic, not by critical thinking toward Truth, but through learning to rationalized your identifications of oppression and to criticize the traditions and cultural structures that prevent one from discovering a personal perspectival truth...My Truth. Critical Pedagogy is literally a collection of instruction methods designed to imbed Critical Theories into curricula, no matter the topic at hand. It's a systemic proselytization of social and cultural praxis. It's designed to fabricate activists rather to give children an embedment in culture, rooted in stories and traditions than bind them together.
Anyway, that's sort of how I read it.
@govols I'm sure that many people would interpret the article like you did. When I read it, my first reaction was "there is nothing new about this method, apart from it has a fancy name including an in-word 'critical'." The article also includes other "triggering words", if you like, such as "inequalities" and "activism". You thought that the method was based in CT. I see it that a good old teaching method (like I said, it has been practised by many teachers/schools for many many years) has been hijacked by a CT advocate, which is concerning, of course. The article is politically biased. If you support CT, you will be impressed by the method, and if you don't support CT, you will be upset by the method. I hope that experienced teachers who are capable of observing impartiality can see through what this article is doing.
