We spent the morning with the Mountain Man group (Southern Idaho Muzzle Loaders) shooting flintlock and cap & ball rifles at the annual turkey shoot. No, we didn't shoot at turkeys. Frozen turkeys and hams were the prizes. Do you know that muzzle-loaders are not classified as firearms and are not regulated by the ATF?

They're antiques, replicas, tributes to a bygone era of personal, community, and a broader right to own and carry a modern and effective means of defense against bullies.
Compared to government arms today, the AR-15 is a muzzle loader, and a 1911 is a flintlick pistol.

They can take down a moose or a grizzly and have their own hunting seasons. David took down Goliath with something more primitive. We use them for fun, though. It's a good excuse to play outdoors with other adults.

I forgot to mention that there was no social distancing, masking, or other neurotic behavior in the clubhouse.

Wow! I wonder how that is viewed in Canada. Australia too. If that get's the same pass as a non-firearm as it is over there.

Dunno. It was a pleasant surprise to me. Muzzle-loaders can even be shipped by regular mail, because they don't fit the definition of firearms.
Frozen turkeys would've made good targets, though!
