I've been pondering human environments, and how reality shifts depending on one's scale of personal, social, cultural, civilizational interactions. Reality shifts also in relation to interactions with tech, and especially in relation to the degree to which one is embedded in tech based subjective and phenomenological interaction as, and among, human agents. Me at a diner is a different reality from me ordering groceries for delivery. A meeting on Zoom isn't the same as one at a conference table; face to face is a reality far above one of mask to mask.
None of us" know" "base reality," but the dirtier our hands are when our work is done the closer we live to it. There's a real difference between being cussed out face to face and being screamed at in all caps...but both occur in the modern human environments, none of which either we or our ancestors--recent or distant--have been very well adapted to.

The abstract is real, the consequences are just obscured by probabilities.
We experience physical reality as being absolute but at tiny scales it is probabilistic. It becomes a question of time and space. In the abstract space iterations are rapid and errors large in the physical space iterations are slower and errors relatively smaller. If we have an objective in both spaces we make the appropriate adjustments.
It isn't so much that reality is an illusion but that we can only make an estimate of it based on probability. Absolutes are a matter for absolute beings. Just keep making adjustments.
I have never been less able to predict the future. Even if the winners (those who have been able to navigate through the modern economy) had not embraced social justice wokeness and corporatism it seems likely these would be unprecedented times. Computers and the internet are more revolutionary than the printing press. Population density has changed the way we interact. The physical environment seems to be rapidly changing. The almost shift of manufacturing to China and away from the centers of capital is unprecedented. Considerable genetic decay as a result of relaxed selection has taken place with secure food supplies, medical advances, and low infant mortality in the population. Atheism has never been so popular. We are passing through one of those periods of history in which the past is a poor guide to the future. Artificial intelligence seems just around the corner which is probably going to be the final act in this period.
Alvin Toffler's "Future Shock" painted the threat as rapid change but people have adapted amazingly well. It's the institutions that are failing. Institutions rely on shared traditions and goals. Bureaucratic inertia is real and is confound by the Peter principal. If we don't restore the meritocracy soon we will not be able to adapt.
