It's really about class for the most part. Minorities get an excuse for being low class and "professionals" get to be distinguished from white trash. It comes down to aesthetics. Trump is rude and crude, something his core doesn't care about.
Art and by extension aesthetics can be a sign of high culture. It's a learning process to appreciate it. Modern art and it's brutality a confusing contradiction but it has always been a sign of sophistication to be cynical. High culture is prone to fads, and obscurities. It's easy to forget that art speaks to the jungle in us. To our natural inclination to prefer an easy but unstable environment. Civilization in contrast is harsh and stable. Civilization is about rational organization, primary productivity. The professional class is isolated from productivity by abstraction the kind of reasoning that promotes IQ. The artistic and creative classes are by nature uncivilized in the sense that they are low in conscientiousness. Conscientiousness as a personality trait not in the sense of being antisocially emotionally detached. The working class is by nature conscientious and patriotic. Not in the abstract but in the physical sense. Trump is by disposition and habit working class.
Our petite nobility is no more detached from reality than the French petite nobility before the French Revolution. They depend on the ruling class for security. What is different is so many come from the working class and are desperate not to let it show. Those not from the working class are generally from the merchant class. People who live in the abstract are likely to take a let them eat cake attitude.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the out of touch are unintelligent. It's more complicated than that.

Willful ignorance and self deception are not traits necessarily associated with a lack of intelligence.
I think willful is the key term. A lot of the West's problems stem from the baby boom and subsequent youth culture. Mindless adolescent rebellion against tradition combined with the sense of superiority that comes from higher education actually made a poorly educated generation intolerant of pragmatism.
The wealthiest generation that has ever lived is not defined by stupidity but self absorption. Luxus always stresses a civilization. Ignorance it turns out is a luxury commodity that has corrupting influences.
The definition of IQ is that the average intelligence is 100. That means half the population is below 100. If you have met or worked with double digit people, you realize that they can't think for themselves. They literally rely on CNN to tell them what to think. And they conclude that no one is smarter than they are, so they can not understand, nor will they listen to reason.

Yes - I don't know how valid your 40% number might be. But I have been trying to tell people that Donald Trump is like Hellary Clinton in that he is so despised (albeit irrational and misplaced hate) that literally ANY candidate put up by the Communist Party (aka Democratic Party) would win the election.
How is Trump like Hellary Clinton you might ask?
Answer: Hillary is so profoundly despised and untrustworthy that she LOST big time to one Donald J Trump.
Trump did NOT win the election so much as the Communists LOST it by making Hellary their candidate. The main difference between Hellary and Trump (in this example) is that there really is no rationale for the Hatred of Trump while in Hellarys case there is obvious and ample justification for hating and distrusting her.

@Serg97 Two elements to that outcome: first and foremost the election was stolen - fraud was rampant and tacitly approved by the fact that there has been little to no investigation of it and the judiciary refused to hear briefs on the fraud.
Secondly but equally important - the massive campaign of mis-information and the literal demonizing of Donald Trump.
Sad to say Trump is un-electable now. But we have some excellent possible candidates who could successfully win - Ron DeSantis is one. Jim Jordan is another. It would be nice if we could get Trey Gowdy to come back and be the next Atty General...but Trump (unfairly) is now rendered toxic/unelectable.
@iThink Sadly I think you are right. Even if only doubt has been instilled, this non-stop daily demonizing has certainly had its effect. Horrific price he and his family have had to pay throughout this ordeal. On the good side, he exposed and continues to expose the ugly underbelly of the entire political class.
If he does not run again, I would deeply hope he receives the Presidential Medal of Honor for all he has done for this country. He and the entire family have fought tirelessly for our Nation.

@iThink I suspect they will try to run her. I also have some degree of belief they will try to run Opra, and Michelle Obummer. All three are strong contenders. It would, more than anything else, simply be a populist contest to determine the biggest "star" draw. If Michelle runs it will be Obama seeking a fourth and fifth term. Nothing would surprise me with the DNC. Their voters have shit for brains and "dreams only" for contending with reality.
