We are not too concerned…. This can swing both ways.

Either a socialist greenie, which will lead to Labour crashing in the next election, or
A moderate lefty that will abandon the radical racist policies that Ardern was pushing.

Either way the worst seems to be over for now.

In NZ the “conservatives” get less than 1% of the vote.

Our two main parties are National- centre left, and Labour- far left, with minor parties the Greens - ultra far left and Maori party also left.
The only non left party is ACT which is libertarian centre. They are NOT conservative at all.

So we have had alternating left - far left leaders the past few decades.
And that has seen NZ slip from top 5 country in the world to top 20… in just 50 years.

@Hanno I've only been to NZ twice (between 2000-2005), and it seemed like a pretty cool and chill place. Yeah, aware of the tension between 'white' kiwis, Maoris, Samoans (coconuts) etc, but it didn't seem to be too bad except in specific areas (had Maori cops give me a lift to my discount lodgings in Porirua coz they thought I'd get beat looking whitey at the train station in the evening). Worked with tons of kiwis in various jobs, always pretty chill, good sense of humor and generally the funnest to work with... Don't get why there isn't a prominent libertarian/freedom party there ...So - have things changed there? Has NZ being infected by identity politics and the woke virus? I've followed the freedom protests there, but that's my bias and obviously I haven't seen the bigger picture there. What's the political climate in the general population? I would have thought you kiwis would be more into the libertarian/freedom type parties.

To be fair, I am only a kiwi since 2012. I love NZ and do all I can to make this a great country.

However my kiwi mates tell me that things used to be very different and the racial divisions are new.

My feeling is that 90% of kiwis are relaxed and just want to be left alone. That applies to all groups.

I live and work in majority Maori area and are accepted and happy.
It is really only 10% of the population that is the problem driving the socialist and racist agenda.
Unfortunately they are also the loudest.

I am dreaming that the “silent majority “ wakes up and vote libertarian soon.

Historically NZ has among the best race relations in the world… hence my sever apprehension towards the likes of Ardern etc who use identity politics to gain power.

@Hanno If I had a choice to live in any place, I would have chosen NZ many years ago. Europeaneque on one island, Pacific Islandesque on the other. Perfect for what I like.
But political and social atmospheres can ruin everything.

Minister of local affairs…. She was leading the nationalisation of our water services from local government control to a race based system to benefit Māori.

Mahuta’s family has a long history of trying to get into government in non-democratic ways.

She was the first to actually get elected and there was rumours she has some power over Ardern and forcing Ardern into the nationalisation programme..
