China continues to restock Russia's ammunitions with train loads heading constantly into Russia

Now imagine if Russia drew a rainbow coloured line for China demanded China stopped supplying the US with weapons/weapon components, let alone other material supplies, to the USA

Assume that the Western elites actually at some point started believing their own propoganda and assume the world is going to end due to climate change. That makes Russia, China and India existential threats to humanity. The WEF and all the other authoritarians in the West could feel they have the moral high ground in that scenario. Coming to believe your own lies is not that uncommon with people. You could also assume that there are aware that there was nothing they could do to maintain world hegemony. They had already entangled themselves in China is such a way that China's relative industrial strength was going to lead to overwhelming military strength. Russia had already decided not to take part in the madness that the West had fallen into. The Western elites made sure of that by trying to pick russia's bones dry after the collapse of the USSR. Russia has the energy to support China's world dominance. The Western elites have run out of options. They can capitulate to China and Russia or start WWIII. Either way in their minds the world is going to end. The only part that is really sane is that their role in the world is going end. What wasn't sane at all was assuming China and Russia would see how enlightened they are and join them as second class partners. Megalomaniacs always get caught in traps of their own making. If we are looking to blame someone it's Kissinger who received the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize in part by promising China a place at the table. Kissinger may not have started it all but he is the poster boy for the kind of amoral elitism the current crop demonstrate.

Pointing to Kissinger kind of repudiates the idea that history is made by "great" men. I myself have never seen the world that way. Kissinger was just following the same path that was easiest given events beyond his control. All great men are produced by events beyond their control. Personally I blame Western Europe, South Korea and Japan for not stepping up when clearly the US was not going to maintain world domination forever. Allowing the US to lose in Vietnam was the first step in the down fall of the West. While all the cocky boomers who opposed the war in Vietnam consider themselves intellectually superior to the old guard of anti communists it was never really communism we were fighting. Communism nor capitalism have ever really existed. What we were fighting for was liberal democracy. A hodgepodge of ideas that are intellectually unsatisfying. The boomers despite their airs of intellectual superiority over previous generations have turned out to be the most ignorant of history of any recorded generation. Like all fools they thought they were the end of history, the generation that was going to set everything right.

In the end it wasn't ideology that did in the West it was Luxus. Luxus produced a generation for whom nothing was worth fighting for. Sex, drugs, and "freedom" were theirs for the taking because there was no longer any material struggle. What they cared about more than anything else was pleasure. Far away and backwards tyrants unimaginable as a threat to their hedonism. That is basically the story of Rome. After all the last generations of Romans had inherited the worlds most powerful military industrial complex as had the Boomers.

You can believe you are the end of history but it marches on and you become a footnote. The bones of once great civilizations are everywhere but nobody notices or sees themselves as the future dust of civilization.

The band Kansas got it right. "All we are is dust in the wind, all we do tumbles to the ground in meritocracy". Hubris is the most deadly sin and it inflicts the rich and powerful more than anyone else. Unfortunately when they fall they take us all with them.
