It will be interesting to see what happens with this, my knowledge of the law says that, acting as a public official you have no right or moral standing to block anyone from the discussion, yet if your acting as a private individual ( sharing recipes, kid photos, family news or what you did this weekend) on a personal level then block away. When acting in public you are public.

Well, you must understand the legal niceties. DJ Trump will not be able to block people, because he's a conservative, whereas AOC will still be able to, since she's a liberal.

In general, if FB or Twitter provides you with a public "platform," and you use it to abuse posters, that's bad--- if you're Trump. However, it's okay, if you're anybody else. And of course okay, if you're FB or Twitter. Hmmm.

It's all quite a difficult problem. The real difficulty is that the internet is NOT really very much like somebody's private magazine stand. Unless you imagine a magazine stand that goes into everybody's home via utility lines, and carrying public access channels like Wayne's World. Do we really want to have a phone company that censors you if you say a bad word on a party line (remember them?) or have your HAM transmitter jammed if you tap out S-C-R-E-W P-O-L-I-T-I-C-I-A-N X? I hope not.

The hell with section 230. The internet is a bit more like the village commons, where on one corner somebody who is floridly crazy stands on a soapbox and foments about socialism. The problem is that we allowed Zuckerberg and other minions to buy too much of the public commons, and now we wonder what the hell went wrong, now that there's no public property to protest on (just private property where you have to follow Owner Rules, rather like Texas). But even Texas has public roads and public this and that (it's just state and not federal). The idea of having public parks on which to have a soapbox is quite fundamental.

You don't own the internet or social media, Mark Zuckerberg. You're Standard Oil. You need to be converted to Esso and a bunch of little mom and pop gas stations. Now that you've taught the libertarians what "Libertarian Nirvana" actually looks like, it's time for the public to exert their right to take back the major commons spaces for themselves as public parks (yes, including the beach). You and your corporate hacks can go in the back room and censor each other. You are not Elon Musk and you never will be. You didn't invent the damned internet. You didn't invent ANYTHING much, but a website with photos and stupid thumbs-up marks.
