I wonder if anybody has considered what's going to happen when Google gets around to deciding that Conservatives and Trump supporters don't need Android??

Then they would lose the tracking info they are selling to highest bidders. They would lose the power of the lie. It would be inconvenient. But phone rooting would get very lucrative very quickly. So would open source android.

Well, it would among some people. But there are a lot of people who aren't technologically literate (computer literate) who are Trump supporters and/or Conservatives-- and for that matter, people of ALL political spectrum that simply don't agree with censorship and the douche-baggery of the big tech companies.

@jwhitten They don’t have to agree with Zuckerberg’s douchbaggery. By right of the Right’s worship of property rights (I include libertarians here), they still must agree to worship the ZuckerBorg’s right do to as he pleases with his private property. How do you really think free market capitalism ends? It ends like the game of Monopoly, where one person has all the real estate and cash. And social media.
What the hell else were you suggesting, O Disgruntled Right? Some kind of communal gov socialization of the internets?

@jwhitten I’m laughing at the Right. They understand with Facebook that they’ve been gobsmacked by capitalism, but are mystified as to how it happened.
I’m laughing at the Right the same way you laugh at a kid standing behind a manure-spreader. If his philosophy was that such devices were good for everyone in every place.
The Left also knows they’ve been hit by shit, but at least understand the mechanism.
@Babou I think the whole thing is a big cluster-fuck, IMO. This wouldn't have happened if the politicos-- right and/or left had done their damned jobs and forced Facebook (et al) into one bucket or the other. They're either a publisher or a carrier. Can't be both. And they've been openly flaunting it for years. The problem is that they're a lot smarter than the politicians and have been running circles around them while lining their pockets with gold the entire time. At this point they probably don't really much care. They just start quietly selling their shares and parachute off into the sunset while the rest of us get saddled with onerous govt regulations.
The platform independent collaboration. It hurts. I've thought about it.

Most of Android (manufactured by Google, of course) is heavily tied to Google's apps. If Google gets cranky it will be practically impossible to use your phone for anything but actual dialing. At least until other app stacks can get in to fill the void. But that's a HUGE collection of Apps, not simply the big ones that I listed in the opening post such as authentication, communications, email and other less-visible lower-level processes.
And then Apple will probably pull the same stunt.
It will happily when some bright folk understand that there is a very large group of consumers looking for an alternative. I know I have money to invest in one as do many others, just takes somebody with the skills and vision to create the right corporation.

When Google decides certain people don't need Android. Apple will likely decide that those same people don't need Apple either.
@jwhitten and the intellectual savey conservatives will develop a completely independent infrastructure with the knowledge they've obtained over the year "anonymous" is still out there somewhere...quietly plotting a plan of their own...maybe... no? Oh well back to the good old ways
@DesireNoDesires The one thing the tech companies can't control, ironically, is THE Internet. They can make it damned difficult but there's always the Raspberry Pi with a radio, or any of the 'neighborhood networks. Granted it would be a bit painful to have to do the Internet from "Stone Age" technology, but we've been there before and that's what the ultimate underlying point and purpose of the Internet model is all about-- being able to route around "damage" (and big tech companies... but I'm repeating myself) and reconstitute the Internet from the ground up-- WITHOUT the big tech companies.
