@Lt-JW I agree. Bloody religious wars and reformation in Europe, for example, was the result of conflicts over different interpretations of the Bible and who should have the authority over the Bible (though it's not as simple as that).

Hello. I would ask why anyone "chooses" to use "Wuhan virus" or "Chinese virus" instead of calling the virus by its proper name. I would assume that they know that the former term carries an effect that plays on peoples' minds. And there are stupid idiots (sadly, we can never get rid of them) who believe that the Chinese are spreading the virus all over the world. My Chinese friend (she lives in England) has an 8-year-old boy. The other morning, he was on his way to school, and two grown-up men shouted at him "You have the coronavirus. Go home (China)!" Would you believe it?! The boy was so scared that he had to rush back home. Being so young, he probably doesn't know anything about the coronavirus. Like everything else, the coronavirus has been politicised, I think. :(

Hello. I would say don't pay too much attention to what strangers are saying or doing; focus more on what you want to do and must do for yourself and your loved ones. I believe that if each one of us fulfil our responsibilities and take care of our loved ones, friends and neighbours, we can have good ripple effects through our actions. :) “Purpose is usually a mistaken word. I’ve seen many people looking for a greater purpose in life, like a kind of mission to save the world. Basically, they were trying to find something to make them feel super special and fill their ego. Purpose is something different. You don’t need to change the world. You just need to shift your perspective from, from ‘what you can take from life today’ to ‘how you can contribute to life today’.” Ruda Lande

@Bay0Wulf I would add - as well as your opponent, you will have to dehumanize yourself in order to do what you are ordered to do in a battle situation. I used to know a veteran who was once in Iraq. One of his mates was killed right in front of him, and all he could think about was how quickly he could take off his mate's brand new shiny boots and keep them. He was so toughened by training and the experience he had on the battle field that he dehumanized himself. Later, he was actually terrified by his own thought, i.e., stealing his mate's boots, and was disgusted by himself. He eventually left the army. I don't know what happened to him after that. Sheer madness. Have you ever been to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial, or any place like that? It'll hit you in the guts, so to speak, to evoke all sorts of emotions.

Hello. Thank you for putting a lot of thought into this. :) It would be a lot simpler if we could dismiss the Satanic Temple as a hoax, BUT, here the matter becomes a lot more complicated 😅: The US government has recognized the Satanic Temple as an organized religion. On April 25, the IRS gave the group the same tax exempt status that it gives to religious groups. "We are pleased to announce that for the very [first] time in history, a static organization has been recognized by the United States federal government as being a church," the Instagram post stated. It continued: "This acknowledgment will make sure The Satanic Temple has the same access to public spaces as other religious organizations, affirm our standing in court when battling religious discrimination, and enable us to apply for faith-based government grants." https://www.insider.com/what-is-the-satanic-temple-recognized-religion-2019-5 This challenges the generally shared definition of religion; the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

However, I found this article which I read with interest. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/muslims/themes/west.html It touches a history of positive relationships between the West and the Muslim world. The following is an excerpt from the article: Has there been a history of positive relationships between Western civilization and the Muslim world? As in most other interactions between civilizations, there are always both positive and negative dimensions. And if one looks at some of the positive aspects of this relationship, one could argue that the way in which centers of learning in the West absorbed knowledge from Islamic civilization in the earlier period through the Iberian peninsula, in Sicily and even via the Crusades. The Crusades had a certain dimension to it which is not often emphasized. It was not just the wars. There was also the exchange of ideas by conquest and trade. You find that ideas pertaining to science and technology and navigation, all those ideas crossed borders and boundaries. So that was positive.

Hello N0DD. I only know this much about "the idea of race" you talk of: Race as a categorizing term referring to human beings was first used in the English language in the late 16th century. Until the 18th century it had a generalized meaning similar to other classifying terms such as type, sort, or kind. Occasional literature of Shakespeare’s time referred to a “race of saints” or “a race of bishops.” By the 18th century, race was widely used for sorting and ranking the peoples in the English colonies—Europeans who saw themselves as free people, Amerindians who had been conquered, and Africans who were being brought in as slave labour—and this usage continues today. - Britannica Is there any articles online you can recommend? Naomi replies on Feb 27, 2020:
@govols I believe that people from different backgrounds can coexist in the same society under the common law that equally protects their rights and freedom. Your country is already a melting pot, and Americans can be hyphened, i.e., African-American, Irish-American, Italian-American, etc., and they are all proud of their heritage. They can coexist by acknowledging/tolerating each other's differences and conserving good things they can share and making a small change/improvement at a time if need be. But I very much doubt it would be the same if society was run by a particular set of religious values and if they were to be imposed on the entire nation (that is what Project Blitz, which is a Christian fundamentalist organisation, is aiming for). In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if the idea that Christians are superior to people of other religions and atheists was generated, and therefore the society became divided by that idea. With regard to young people being disrespectful towards their grandparents, I believe it has always been like that and I don't think it will ever change. “The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.” ― Socrates :P

@govols Yeah, that's true. Project Blitz's ultimate goal is one religion (Christianity), one country and one way of life. Because I grew up in a secular environment, I can't imagine what it would be like to live in such a country. I would probably feel so suffocated that I would eventually decide to leave, but then, that would be exactly what they want me to do; they wouldn't want anyone else to live in their country except Christians.

@RobBlair So, as a proud Christian and a heterosexual man, do you see yourself oppressed? I understand if you do; I have enough Western male friends who are frustrated with the current social climate affected by identity politics. I hate identity politics myself and stay out of it as much as I can, but the reality is that the current Western society includes the very people you mention and they are not gonna go away. Meanwhile, we are supposed to be all equal in the eyes of God (your god) as well as in the eyes of law, no? Project Blitz is prioritizing Christianity, right-wing Christianity to be precise. Actually, no matter in which society they promote their movement, aren't they wrong going against their (and your) god's will and the law that protects individual citizens, and their rights and freedom? Incidentally, there is a similar movement growing in Europe. It is called ethnonationalism.
