Hello ObiRonMoldy. I know you feel strongly about the girl. I'm well aware of her conditions, too. But, there is no way I can know her "personally". People make a lot of assumptions about the girl - I try not to. What I mean by "normal" is that she goes back to where she belongs, i.e., her own local community, her own neighbourhood and her own school. It is not normal for any child/teen to be constantly surrounded by grownups, let alone politicians, trying to use her in order to achieve their own agendas. I fear that she might have a breakdown soon, especially with her unstable conditions.

Overnight, 100 wax worms degraded 92 milligrams of a plastic shopping bag. At this rate, it would take these same 100 worms nearly a month to completely break down an average, 5.5 gram plastic bag."
Just a random piece of knowledge - interesting.

The land belongs to the people and thou art only the guardian of it. Today, the ancient ethic of Mahinda is often quoted by Sri Lankan leaders to demonstrate the endurance and continuing significance of wildlife conservation in their culture. Yet, contrary to Mahinda's counsel, the Mahaweli Development Program has displaced much of the wildlife of the island by developing its habitat into farmland. Lol Do you remember when you were child, how frustrating it was to have your ideas, thoughts or feelings brushed off by your teachers, parents or any grownups? Get told not to be silly - conversation over? I do. Grownups forget that once they were children themselves. Children have their own thoughts and their own feelings; no matter how childish, naive, immature, etc., they are still thoughts and they are still feelings. Children need to be listened to and made aware that there are some things that they haven't thought through (like "sell your car or you are going to die in the next 12 years" which doesn't make sense, right?) so that they will be wiser. Listen to them and guide them by all means, but don't just dismiss their views. That would be my approach if I had children. Unfortunately, Greta is wrapped up in her passion and beliefs so much that she fails to understand how her actions are impacting on young minds. No one with a sane mind would tell children that they are going to die in a matter of years. There are so many children and young people already suffering depression. Why tell them such a thing? It's cruel. Someone has to talk to her face-to-face and unpick her thoughts. That would be the right thing to do for her IMO.

Naomi replies on Sep 24, 2019:
Do you remember, Luke, when you were child, how frustrating it was to have your ideas, thoughts or feelings brushed off by your teachers, parents or any grownups? Get told not to be silly - conversation over? I do. Grownups forget that once they were children themselves. Children have their own thoughts and their own feelings; no matter how childish, naive, immature, etc., they are still thoughts and they are still feelings. Children need to be listened to and made aware that there are some things that they haven't thought through (just like you say "sell your car or you are going to die in the next 12 years" which doesn't make sense, right?) so that they will be wiser. Listen to them and guide them by all means, but don't just dismiss their views. I'm waiting for someone, preferably another 16-year-old, to challenge Greta (I'm assuming that not all teens agree with her) so that they have a proper debate on climate change. I am a skeptic but not a denier, so I have no problem with people debating on climate change. Climate change needs to be debated among young people. I expect any 16-year-olds to take responsibilities for and accept the consequences of their own actions. I presume that Great knows what she's doing, virtue-signaling if you will, so she shall suffer the consequences of her own actions. I believe that her passion and beliefs are genuine. Unfortunately, she is wrapped up in them so much that she fails to understand how her actions are impacting on young minds. No one with a sane mind would tell children that they are going to die in a matter of years. There are so many children and young people already suffering depression. Why tell them such a thing? It's cruel. Unfortunately, science is politicised nowadays, in my opinion. If anyone tells me to listen to climate scientists, I'll have to ask "Which side? Believers or skeptics?" Apparently, when data don't fit their narrative, they just change the data - both sides are just as bad each other. By the way, I agree with you about fear-mongering. Fear is a powerful political tool. Fear sells. There is certainly manufacturing of Greta Thunberg going on. šŸ™

It's interesting that you mention homogeneity and national pride. I think these are major factors in keeping society together. On the excursion to Sweden, my guide told us that at mosques in Sweden, Muslims must make prayers in Swedish. I think this is great. Nothing to do with racial discrimination or anything. This is simply a "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" approach. In the UK, the government try too hard to accommodate immigrants, hence too much political correctness in my opinion. I spent some time in Malmo. It looked very posh. New buildings everywhere, plus a new university. The state is giving a complete makeover so that people will move to Malmo from Copenhagen (only about 20 min. drive) and Malomo will eventually become a bustling city like Copenhagen. I didn't witness any of the civil disruption which is often reported by the media as if it is all over Malmo. Since the refugee crisis Sweden suffered in 2015, border control became much stricter.

@iThink, @PalmThis I found the details of the story you're talking about. It's shocking. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49198405 The son of the deceased old lady in question had signed paperwork refusing experiments involving explosions, yet the Biological Resource Center (a private institution I presume) ignored it and sold her body to the US Army. I also notice that while organ donation is regulated by the US Department of Health and Human Services, body donation remains unregulated - interesting. The law which is about to be introduced in the UK is about the donation of organs of people when they die, and they're directly registered with the NHS. This law does not apply to body donation. Since the NHS is a state-run health care service, it does not involve profits, i.e. no sales or purchases of organs. Of course, when we start talking about corruptibility, black market, that sort of things, speculations are endless. Plus, there are private medical services in the UK, and I don't know how they operate with regard to organ donation. I do have reservations about the fact that the law "presumes" that everybody is happy to donate their organs unless they wish not to be, in which case they have to let the government know. To me, this presumption part is sticky. At least the law gives room for consideration in terms of family consent, religious faiths and beliefs, etc., which is only fair. I think this is a "soft" law. I'll be interested to see how well, or badly, it works within the UK social system.

Hello, and thank you for thinking hard about this. The following questions have been answered by the UK government: "Am I losing control of what happens to my body? No. It will still be for you to choose if you want to be an organ donor. And if you donā€™t want to donate, itā€™s really quick and simple to record your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register." "Will you still ask my family's permission? Yes. Families will continue to be consulted before organ donation goes ahead." "Is my religion, faith or belief system taken into consideration before organ donation goes ahead? Yes. NHS Blood and Transplant specialist nurses have always explored an individualā€™s faith and / or beliefs with families as a matter of routine." Hello ScottforKing. Brexit is super-complicated! Some say the EU respects the result of the referendum (leave) and others say the EU is trying to stop Brexit. I suggest that you read this article - much better than me trying to explain. Lol https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-32810887
I can feel anger and frustration... Brexit

Leaving without a deal is as anti-democratic as not leaving at all. We shouldn't have triggered article 50 without knowing exactly what type of Brexit we would have to negotiate. Theresa fucked this up right from the start. We all have been betrayed.

Hello. I also blame David Cameron; he was triggered by Nigel Farage and called for the referendum. And I agree; the people in the UK have been completely ignored by the political class.
