Two Prominent Conservative Evangelical Pastor-Theologians Weigh In on Voting for Trump -- For and Against
Recently John Piper wrote a post in which he made it clear he would not be voting for either major candidate in the upcoming election. I was left with the idea that he would be voting for a third party candidate (as I myself did in 2016). His article may be found here:
His longtime friend, Wayne Grudem, has recently written a response to John, in which he defends his own decision to vote for President Trump (which I myself will also be doing tomorrow). Wayne points out some of my own objections to John's piece, but he does it better than I could. His article may be found here:
Both articles are well worth reading, but I think Wayne Grudem gets it right. How about you all? Especially to my fellow Christians, which argument do you find convincing?

One relies on a narrative founded on false premises, outright lies, deception and coercion. It is an ideology that is so good that the only way to implement it is by force and mendacity.
The other is an ideology with a 100 year track record of having brought more wealth, health, success to the global human family than anyone cares to imagine.
I leave it to you to figure out which one is which.
As I see it there is nothing to gained - nothing to "learn" by giving time and attention to the ideology of deceit and destruction - it offers only slavery.
Two majorly incompatible idologies folks! This is your choice in the election.
YOU decide if you want to live free or as a slave and vote accordingly.

Great point.
I'm strongly on the side of Mr. Grudem. As a Christian, I consider it my moral obligation to do what I believe is best for this country when it comes to voting. Piper's criticism of Trump's moral failures isn't misplaced, but in this case casting a vote for someone who has absolutely no chance of winning is really nothing more than virtue signaling. Worse, it can potentially put the wrong person in office, depending on your point of view... a vote withheld with from one candidate improves the other candidate's chances of winning. I could go on, but the bottom line is this...national elections are serious business where the stakes are high. Trump's behavior may be repugnant at times, but there's no doubt in my mind he's the best choice this year.

Voting to re-elect President Trump for the reasons given by Grudem fits my own Biblical perspective on Christian patriotism. I have written about that subject, and you might find it interesting. You can read it here:
@KeithThroop Thanks for that. Good article with some very relevant reminders. It's good to remember we're just passing thru this life. Our heavenly residence matters far more. Sure, I care about quality of life, but the most important thing is to preserve our liberties, especially religious freedom.
