What did is prompting this and why are they making it OK to shoot a rioter who breaks into your business and is stealing your property or run over rioters blocking your exiting of a protest? And why now?

It is easy for me to see what is being attempted here, because I know history, particularly Florida’s recent history.

Two years ago Northern Florida endured a Cat 5 Hurricane that knocked power out for a large number of residents for over a month. Understanding how a Cat 3 hurricane had led to the entire loss of control by law enforcement in Louisiana, the governor understood that we needed to prepare for potential lawlessness in the wake of the devastation. He authorized a blanket conceal carry for all residents. This had an amazing effect. Many of us posted signs saying, “Trained gun owner - Loot at your own risk” and “This neighborhood protected by trained gun owners”.

People seeing an opportunity to victimize others in the wake of the devastation suddenly had a different threat to deal with. They couldn’t just assume that their potential victims would be helpless. The power and encouragement that gave the law abiding citizens was unbelievable. Nobody got shot as far as I know, but the crime actually went down during this time. Many of us posted signs saying, “Trained gun owner - Loot at your own risk” and “This neighborhood protected by trained gun owners”.

That clarifies the “why loosen the restrictions WRT rioting”. The “why now” is a function of the fact that the country is split and there have been widespread looting and rioting in Democrat led cities and nothing was done to stop it by those in authority. That along with the fact that we are currently a politically polarized country in the midst of a hotly disputed election makes it clear that a clear warning must be issued. This doesn’t say the left can shoot the right or vice versa. It makes it clear, “don’t start sump’n, won’t be nutt’n.”

Also, remember that most of the rioting/looting was instigated by outside groups (terrorist groups like Antifa and even by BLM which is a misnomer). These are not the local residents, these agitators and criminals are on notice not to come here is they want to leave with their lives and health in tact.

I support the move, but would like to see the actual verbiage to know the loop holes that might prove counterproductive.

Would love to see the actual text of the bill. For talking purposes, A large group of people who are clearly acting outside of the law represent a danger to the safety of individuals. If a person is on his property or in his car and they are assaulted by a large group and fear for their or their family members' lives, they should be able to defend themselves. On the other side, if you are involved in a group that is rioting or looting, you have a duty to disperse and not add yourself to that illegal mob.

Would love to hear arguments against this.
