So, you’re playing poker, and you just laid down a full-house—3 aces and a pair of jacks. Amid the mutterings and grumblings around the table, and your triumphant grin, you reach for the pot.
Then the man across the table pulls a gun.
“Hold on, Stranger,” he says. “I think you found one of them aces up your sleeve.”
Response A:
You say, “Then I guess that means there’s five aces here in the mix,” nodding towards the cards scattered on the table. “So find ‘em. Show ‘em. Otherwise stick that thing up your ass.”
When you’re vindicated, you cash out your winnings and leave everyone in the dirt.
Response B:
You make fun of him and call him paranoid, tell him he’s delusional, ridicule his gun—“You gonna shoot me with that little thing?”—and then you declare that you won the pot fair and square and tell him it’s time to move on.
Then, when the extra ace is found, you’re shot dead.
Who sounds like a winner, and who sounds like a cheater these days?
