Hes a doomer/geopolitical analyst imo, the only talking head I watch without fail.
Civilizations come and go but mankind remains.
The bronze age collapse must have left people thinking it was the end of the world. The Dark age that followed the bronze age collapse was much darker than the one that followed the collapse of Rome in the West. The end of WWII brought an unparalleled peace by way of the cold war. Things evolve by the replacement of the things that came before. But progress is overall forward with large and small steps backwards and lots of painful missteps.
Jordan Peterson has an insight that may be useful. We have to go through the painful process of killing off part of us to grow as individuals. Unfortunately societies have a similar problem.
We may be in the process of a managed decline at the moment. The chaos brought about by exploding population density, the digital revolution, shifting power structures, changing climate, new monetary structures, the rise in mutation load in the population, new religions, migrations, demographic changes, the meaning of geography, pandemics, seem to coalesce periodically. A civilization can manage a few of these problems but when they happen all at once it gets ugly.
