Fiat currency isn't the problem, bad monetary policy is a problem.
What I question is values of the society.
The value of all commodities are at least partially arbitrary, including gold. You can't get rid of the emotional aspects. If people woke up tomorrow having been struck by a sense altering event that made shiny gold colored things repugnant the value of gold would decrease and it would become just another industrial metal. The key word here is emotional. We are being manipulated by people who value gold or it's equivalent in some other currency. People who don't seem to value the important things, friends, family, community. Joe Biden is the perfect caricature of the lost souls who hold power. He seemed perfectly willing to use his son to aid his influence peddling ignoring the drug use, and sexual indiscretions that Hunter has been engaged in. The people who make fun of middle class values are concentrated in the poor and the rich who both live in a kind of hell of their own creation.
The real worries are structural--not monetary.
