I don't know about Herbert Hoover, I do know the establishment assassinated Kennedy brothers and censured Robert Junior. As did they censor Trump. I'm not sure if they can assassinate him too, but I'm sure they would like to.

As for Sam, he is a liberal with a mask off, protecting the system because of his position in that system. As "expert" he enjoys the privileged position once occupied by high priests. Hence he is for free speech and all that as long as it does not threaten the system he depends on. Soon as anything is a threat like Christians, Muslims, out of town presidents, like Trump or non complaint people who questions about masks and jabs. he feels threaten because he feels system he depends on is under threat.

In the case of Trump in particular. Trump as an outsider. I mean ever since Jimmy Carter pretty much no matter for whom Americans voted for , republican or democrat they voted for establishment. The forign policy rarely changes and domestic policies are usually with democrats, move further to the left in more radical direction, republicans accept the position and hold on to status quo. Meanwhile the big goverment gets bigger. Where all the political class, regardless if they are democrat or republican gets their money.

They got so arrogant and used to being in power that they left the back door unprotected. Basically they decided that keeping the illusion of democracy alive its easier to pacify the Americans. They don't have to represent them once in office, they can just benefit from the corrupt system. And any outsider was unlikely to challenge it who was not part of the deal because before they get to office of president they would be sabotaged or bough off and besides they don't have enough money usually and need doners to run the campaign , hence they can be bough before they become a president.

Trump was a surprise. A black swan. He had enough money to run on his own. He was never a politician before so they could not groom him. And he was on TV so people knew him and he knew how to entertain. All he had to be the voice for the voiceless. Working class Americans. And they will give him the power to win. Its the same class of people that "experts" the high priests of liberalism hate, because he does not ask them for approval or opinion and he talks to people directly, jumping over the gatekeepers. Hence they hate the orange man.

Sam Harris in particular being in his own echo chamber got a really bad case of TDR. Trump Derangement Syndrome. But beneath that he is protecting the system that keeps him in power.

AS someone dug up a screenshot where he was advocating for compulsory jabs because we need to do what is best for "everyone?" In other words comply to the system where I have power as "expert". He was willing to jab people by force just so the system remains in place and people only get to do what the experts say they can. He was protecting the system that protects him and no price is high enough, apparently. Most liberals are like this. Sam Harris just unironically took off mask once too many times in public, and he was too much part of distorted reality field of his own echo chamber to realize that most of the world does not only not agree with him, but sees him as repulsive tyrannical lunatic. Which he is.

@Krunoslav Harris displays all the symptoms of someone captured by a cult. He only believes what his cult allows, only says what the cult likes to hear and only hates everyone outside the cult. He is willing to kill multiple innocent people for the cult's satisfaction. Charles Manson would have loved a follower like Sam.

In other words, the really Sam Harris has always been this way, but he finally feels free to let it out in reaction to Trump, no doubt due to the fact that there are many on the Left who will praise him for it. The current political/legacy media/big tech powers that be have given him the safe space to “let it all hang out.”

I think MacIntyre may have gone on to describe Harris as a “liberal with the mask off,” which is closer to the truth, I think. Admittedly, I was listening while trying to do some other things as well.

I think what he meant to say is that Sam Harris spends most of his time in a sheltered echo chamber. Same people, who think like he does, he reads the same media anti trump reports. He goes to cocktail dinners with people who agree with him. He enjoys privileged position as "expert" in liberal subsections of the world. He comes from wealthy background, never really spend time with the working people. So I think what MacIntyre was trying to argue is that when you live in such a closed off world of distorted reality or downright lies, and that is all you know, its what you think everyone else is like and would agree with you. So I think when Sam talks about Trump or these other things, I think he is truly being honest. Foolish, but honest.

I think he never really spends time understanding other point of view, so always surrounded by yes men and yes MSM outlets. He simply speaks what he thinks is true. Not realizing that for most of the world this is not how things are. While many similar to him would lie and be deliberate about it, I think Sam genuinely thinks what he says is widely accepted truth. ironic reality considering that is how he thinks rest of the world is.

@Krunoslav Good points. I suspect, however, that Harris could not possibly be so ignorant of opposing views. To be sure, he probably does hang out with people who constantly reinforce his own perspective, but he is too smart not to know about the other perspectives out there.
