Behind Disney+ loss of more than TWO MILLION subs in Hollywood’s unwinnable Streaming Wars
Against a backdrop of Marvel’s Ant Man And the Wasp Quantumania underperforming in theaters, Kevin Feige recently stated that there would be fewer Marvel series on Disney+ going forward.
That of course also ties in with Bob Iger’s stated intention at the recent earnings call to cut the total pot earmarked for producing Disney+ content by a whopping three billion. This is all a tacit admission of Disney’s failure in the streaming wars against Netflix, HBO Max, Star, Hulu, Peacock, Apple, Paramount+ and everyone else, so how could this happen?
To find out, we have to go back to the beginnings of the streaming war itself, and then we’ll discover how entirely preventable this outcome was.

The trend towards soulless entertainment is much older than streaming services. I would say Autotone [en.wikipedia.org] epitomizes the negative impact that technology has had on creativity. The entertainment industry learned the art of marketing so well that creative merit became almost irrelevant many decades ago. What is shocking is how easily the critics were to buy off. With critics in the bag they thought they could sell anything even the ultimate in soullessness, Wokeness. The continuing popularity of politically incorrect music from the 60s and 70s should have been a warning. People are very good at spotting the soulless. There environment may have sucked most of their soul out but they still respond to it when they see it.
People abandoned baseball in droves after the 1994 baseball player strikes. It took until 2004 for attendance to return to pre strike levels. The people knew that it was always about the money but the strike was the last straw. It seems neither the baseball player nor the owners understood that spectator team sports are a religious activity. A kind of ritualized combat with religious overtones. The chaos and struggle of nature and against nature only slightly restrained by morality or the rules. The players and owners had become false prophets, the money changers at the temple.

True. Disney is a political weapon so its worth paying attention to it for that, not for its shows. That being said I'm similar to you. Selective.
