With the News that a Matrix 4 is to start production I was thinking t would be interesting to dissect the messages and cultural impact the original Matrix films had on the culture with the evidence of hindsight.
What do people think the themes and messages the Matrixs put out? Do they believe they were ideologically shewed? Do they think they were healthy or destructive?
One aspect that was prevalent was the idea of the "wage slave" where the Matrix is a metaphor for the system.

It’s open to multiple interpretations, none of which is “the” right one. Problems arise whenever someone seizes on one or two themes from the series and then insists they contain some kind of indictment or condemnation or (worse) prediction. It’s essentially a comic book. There is no such thing as a red pill. But what if...?

I forgot the "red pill" came from the Matrix when I wrote the post.
I think the idea that there are infinite interpretations of the Martrix is an esqued theory as the creators were trying to communicate an idea and impression through a variety of methods from costume choices, setting and dialogue.
For instance I don't think it was a coincident that Neo worked an office job in a cubicle wearing a suit.
@acthenpens I don’t understand “esqued,” but I agree Neo’s job in a cubicle is a nice precursor to that scene when he emerges from his pod.

@acthenpens Cool. I certainly think some interpretations are more accurate and complete than others. But I also believe any good artist is going to leave some room for “other” views. Ambiguity in the right doses can be very healthy.
